ICQ is a little progam sorta like AOL Instant Messenger. Except its free! And you can do many more things with it! The ICQ address is a long number which is sorta like your "screen name" on AOL Instant Messenger. The reason they do numbers instead of "screen names" is probably because there is ALOT more combinations with numbers than letters.

i think they used numbers to allow ppl to pick whatever name they wanted instead of everyone getting a message that the name they want is already taken

Icq's a brilliant little program... I have a few members of the community on my list and we swap screenies and files and all sorts of things over it, not to mention discuss projects and development work.

ArgonV, AOL instant messenger is free too.

ICQ is the king of feature creep software, it takes up way too much ram for just an instant messaging program.

Yep its features creep a bit, But I find it extreamly usefull, Its the only one I used.

My GF uses the AIM and always has problems conecting and its missing all kinds of stuff ICQ has.

Plus a gaggle of people use it.

I'm from WAY back, My user number is 3080656. I can't belive its up to as many users as it is.

About ram I never have any problems, even on my old crappy computer I leave it on all the time, even when I game and I have never noticed a game running any better if I don't turn it on before gaming.

Personaly I've used ICQ and AIM, I only use AIM now though, for good reason, AIM is free, has more functions than ICQ, is less "buggy", and is a damn site easier to use, I've always heard guys here how they bitch about not being able to meet up in their own room with ICQ, with AIM this is so damn easy, AIM will allow you to send images that appear in the message box without having to dig around for it and open it, you can talk over it, send and recieve all file types, have loads of buddy list options, quiet simply it's the "bees knees" when it comes to message type programs, just a shame AOL haven't used the same system in AOL itself, AIM is better than the system they use LOL
