Werner: No pictures. I was totally unprepared for this. Did a couple of touch-n-go's and power-off landings, and then suddenly the instructor said he thought I could do it on my own and just climbed out of the plane.Semmern: A nice little easy to fly plane, Piper PA-28 (Archer).
Spanky: Feel... similar, and different. The thrust and torque of the puny 160HP engine is a bit less than that of the 2000HP twin wasp in the P47. It's also very very stable in the air, much more so than the planes we model here. The feeling is similar, though. It's also much slower. Airspeed on final is 65KIAS, compared to around 100KIAS for most of the fighter aircraft in SDOE. For the touch-down, it's also easier since it's not a tail dragger, especially in cross wind (which I've had in every landing/takeoff I've made.) In real life, unlike in SDOE, the air is quite bumpy.
Biggles: Nerve wercking? No, not at all. Felt a bit shaky afterwards, but the flight-envelope was actually much smoother than any time ever with an instructor, probably because I could do all the judgement myself instead of listening to advice (OK, initially the advice is needed, but after a while it can become annoying.)
