Well had my first online race last night.

Its pretty cool and I'll do more today-tonight.

I only raced once, it was an Intermediat class for 5 laps, on Le Mans Sarthe. I hadn't even made a full lap of the track offline I noticed while I was racing LOL.

They smoked me off the start cause I forgot to drop it into gear, I just let out the clutch when the flag dropped and sat there for a second.

LOL

I caught up at the first corner but they were mostly in faster cars then me.

I drive the coventry/cooper, they were saying that to be competitive I have to drive the lotus or eagle. I didn't want to though cause everyone drives those cars.

I'm going to try to play with my setup a bit cause I just need more top end through the back straight.

I'm also going to try the lotus and eagle out offline and see how I like them.

I finished 3rd, and started at 6th out of 6 racers, we didn't have any AI racing.

I passed 2 crashes (2 guys crashed out)but don't remember passing any guys so I must have passed into 3rd with 4th off the track, you really don't have the time to look around.

I'm just happy I finished the race LOL.

I'm on DSL, and didn't see any major lag or anything, just a hint here or there, and a bit in the middle of a nasty crash but still nothing that bad. Totally acceptable and people that lag too much during practice and qualifying quit out and look for a better server closer to them.

yep you have to qualify before the race.

My frame rate online is a little lower but nothing major, I went from a pretty much solid 36 FPS(the fastest GPL will run) offline to around 25 online. I'm going to adjust some stuff for online though cause the cars are easiest to control with 36fps, the controls are a little smoother.

I had no problems hooking up at all Werner, so I'm not sure what our problem was the other night.

Werner (and other SDOE/GPL guys) Theres a fix for the Le Mans Sarthe track.

Some people have had crashing problems (as in the game would crash) I havn't but it has also help one guys frame rate and other people report smoother corners.

I'm going to put it in just cause.

Its avalible in this thread.

BTW this is also the best forum I have found for GPL, if you go back the main forums there is tons of other good car racing stuff too.

Spanky, my man - you better hafta swap car. The Cooper is much slower than the other cars, no matter how excellent your setup is. It's great for slower tracks, like Kyalami though. I drive the Eagle, which is an oh-so-fast thing, with great performance and handling, although the brakes are a bit bad. You'll get used to that after a while. But it's very much easier to drive than the big, bad Lotus, and it's about as fast as well (202mph at Milano).

Actually, the best handling car is most likely the Ferrari, as it is very willing to change attitude on demand, and it has just enough power that you aren't too much handicaped. It's drag is somewhat higher, though, so you'll be slower at Monza or Spa. It's very good at twisty circuits such as Zandvoort or Mosport.

Plus, you cannot beat the scream of that engine .

Where the hell do you get it? I went to his site and it said coming soon or something wacked.

I did some more online today, lots of crashes.

I came in 4th out of I think 9 or 11

I was lapped right at the end by the leader though, I let him by but I didn't know the checker was just up ahead, otherwise I would have just hammered it home.

only the top 3 wern't lapped.

and one guy was lapped 9 times, NINE FREAKING TIMES.

crazy

I was playing with some guys in europe with no probs.

Gotta love it people are online at all hours.

So did you figure out the server thing Spanky? Does the host's name appear on the left or is it like SDOE, with set servers (that just have funny names)?

Lapped nine times... lol I didn't know the carset included a 15 speed bike!

Werner, no I haven't hosted anything yet, havn't seen the need.

There is auto severs up, theres no one actually but a computer just hosts games for people, I think even a couple schools servers, and people just leave their computer on all night as a host just to be nice I guess.

I think we have to change something in our INI to host. I'll have to ask around or check out the Vroc page.

I think some of the guys are coming over tonight to play so we should be around for some racing if you are.

Oh hosts name is on the left, those funny names are dedicated hosts like I was explaining above.

I think someone said that your last name is the host server name.
