Well Its out in Canada now, at least at EB, its 75.

Well You need to crank everything to get the quality that the screen shots show.

800x600 won't cut it, You need to run at 1024x768 Specially to make the interior look nice.

Most of the textures in the game are nothing to write home about.

The sounds seem pretty good so far.

You will need a decent machine.

The min specs are a joke of course.

I'm running P2 333, 192 megs and a banshee.

I'm guessing you will want at least a p2 500 with a better vid card for running at full detail.

I've only done a couple train rides to check it out.

Terrain seems ok, but nothing special.

Seems like it could be pretty bare at times.

Its 2 cds and 1.54 GIGs to install.

I think thats about it for now.

2 CD's and 1.5 Gig! To watch grass grow? What else does it do? Or do you just ride around in circles like we did as a puppies with our Lionel sets?
I still think it's a shame we can't import the trains into the Game. It'd be so neat to blow up a train.

Damn Yeah I would love to shoot some trains.

The patch team should add a train system to the game.

Boy that would rock.

About the size, I guess all that terrain, and textures has to go somewhere.

Yep just the routes is 1.19 gigs.

Theres over 600 miles of track to cover.

OH BOY 600 miles eh LOL.

The trains themselves are anotehr 133 megs.

I figured it would need some pretty good horsepower to run those large terrains and stuff... Hmm. I've been very interested in this sim/game, but not so much so that I can't wait until the price drops. Thanks for the info, Spanky.

Thanks for the info Spanky. Couple of questions for you. Can you run to trains in opposite directions and have them collide or be a poor engineer and derail your train from improper speed, etc..? Just wondering how real it is.

You guys know that Rendsburger (I think) built a train for SDOE some time ago, right? Its a bit of a hack, yes, but still very, very fun to look at and especially shoot up.

I've only done the train rides to get an idea on how it would run.

I'll do more tonight if I get the chance, I do know that you can derail by going to fast around a corner from readign about it. I'm not sure about collisions.

I sure hope so.

Yeah waiting for the price to drop a little certainly wouldn't be a bad idea.

Specially since like me you still have to upgrade right WM?

More thoughts on this sucker.

K I just did some of the tutorial on the electric train. The tut was ok except it only let you use a button when it wanted you to. And it seemed messed cause it would tell me to do somthing and I just couldn't do it.

Driving a train worked better without it. It was pretty cool.

Until it locked up on me. Very cool stuff, except the views seem limiting. And when you hover your mouse over a control and use the button to move something. You have to hover, click and hold the button, move and let go. The action doesn't happen till you let go, a little wacky but ok when you get used to it.

Crap, forgot the worst part.

I think (i'll do more testing to confirm) that trainsim is messing up my ICQ.

I run my desktop at 800x600 and trainsim at 1024x768.

When I come back out of trainsim my ICQ is at the edge of a 1024x768 desktop.

In otherwords its right off my screen.

So I resize to the larger res and move ICQ and then drop it back down and all is fine.

Not a huge deal but REALLY annoying.

Specialy the first time it happens.

I'll do more testing to make sure its trainsim doing it.

This puppy's hitting the 14.99 rack before I'm going to touch it. Thanks for the heads up Spanky. Its crazy though, CFS1 is still selling for THIRTY BUCKS in these parts. Sheesh what a load of BS.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, and i understand that this isn'y everyones train of thought, but, i would just prefer to buy a real train set for the $100AUD that it'll most likely cost here.

You may not be able to get tons of trains, or got tons of places with a 'toy' train, but that's what your imagination is for.

Besides, when you'are sick of one train, you can pack it, and it's carriges, full of fire-crackers, and blow the crap out of it

BTW just a question on the game, does it come with/can you download Thomas the Tank Engine?

Good idea. Maybe we should all stop buying flight sims and go to Toys R Us and buy some plastic airplanes.

Ok, just some feedback, it seems trainsim isn't the thing giving me problems with my ICQ.

I think it might have something to do with that console controller adapter driver.

I think anyways. Or its just sims that I run in 1024x768 cause I just tried SCGT at that res and it did it.

Well at least thats one less problem with MSTS.

Biggles - I actually have a Model Railroad in the basement. hehe, it's a money pit. I'm nearly finished it, but being a train buff I'm interested in anything to do with trains, including computer sims.

Train sim is bad ass. I thinks it's cool to play with. Good frame rates too. It's a winner in my book.

Look for the green Burlington Northern DC80 picture, that's my latest project. It's fun, just like SDOE, adding lots of new models, except trains not planes.

It's a nice diversion.

Spanky-

You mentioned in one of your posts where the game wouldnt let you do something in one of the tutorials. Is this the same even outside of the tutorials? I hate games where you dont have complete freedom to experiment and see what happens when you screw up. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the game guys-

Pete - is there anywhere else to get information on projects like yours? I couldn't find any info on your project on that site. Plus all that MSN navigation crap just annoys me.

Yeah, info is hard to find. This forum is so much nicer than that one, the way it's laid out.

Type that in your browser. Cut and pasting won't work (thanks Xoom).

Very nice Pete! Is it possible to model cars, too? I think it would be cool to model WWII flak cars with all the sandbags and stuff.
