Finally it looks like the WWII memorial will go to the shovel. GWB signed an order that cleared the way for the memorial construction to begin. IMHO it's about time that the Americans that gave all of themselves to the world so that the world could be free finally get the recognition they all deserve. This is probably one good example for bureaucratic bullshut getting in the way of something that is long over due and also in my opinion will never express the gratuity that all these young men and women of World War II deserve.P IP: Logged |

>You ought to hear the bleeding hearts complain about it.......it "glorifies war" and will ruin the "openness" of the Mall.Jerry... I haven't heard any "bleeding hearts" criticising this monument. The only criticisms I've read about are in regards to the size, shape, and location of the monument.... purely technical stuff. So, please... let's not turn this into a Right vs. Left thing. After all, it was Bill Clinton-- someone who I'm sure you would consider to be a bleeding heart --who signed the law (Law 103-32 on May 25, 1993) that gave the American Battle Monuments Commission the authorization to build this thing in the first place. And, let's not forget that actor and Democrat Tom Hanks has been one of the most active and visible fundraisers in the campaign for this memorial. If you want to define "bleeding hearts" as being all liberals that's your problem, not mine. And yes, I have seen newscasts showing "bleeding hearts" complain about the monument glorifying war.Methinks you doth protest too much. IP: Logged |

And yes, I have seen newscasts showing "bleeding hearts" complain about the monument glorifying war.Well, ok... I'll buy your statement as long as we are clear that the terms "bleeding hearts" and "liberals" are not interchangeable. A lot of Conservatives do consider those terms to be one in the same, so I had to make sure you don't. IP: Logged |

Yeah, I hear that a lot of Liberals consider Conservative and mean-spirited as interchangeable terms. Amazing isn't it? IP: Logged |

I'm just glad to see it get the go-ahead, after all it's what about 55 years overdue! You have to know that some type of political red tape held it up long before either of the most recent administrations were in power. "Republicians Democrats, same shit different pile"P IP: Logged |

I must say it is about time. I remember learning there was no WWII memorial 2 or 3 years ago. It supprised the shit out of me. I always just assumed there was one.IP: Logged |

What do you define 'bleeding hearts' as Jerry? You are the one that initialized the conversation with that term. I think we all should use a word bank when posting. LOL IP: Logged |
