In the military we refer to timezones by alphabetical letters ie GMT = Z (pronounced Zulu) and where I am in Eastern Australia is K (Kilo).....When discussing times across different zones (and important operational matters) we always refer to Zulu time as generaly everyone knows what letter they are in and how far (time wise)it is from Zulu.
For example, if I was to coord a flight on Cali12, I might suggest the following Date Time Group (DTG) 261000Z May 01.
This means I want people to be on Cali12 on the 26th May 2001 at 10 AM Zulu time (GMT).
Then everyone would then calculate the difference according to their time zone.
For example, I am in Kilo, which is 10 hrs in front of Zulu. Therefore I would be there 262000K May 01 or 8 PM on the 26th - in Eastern Australia.
I agree that this might sound like a whole lot of BS
....but once understood it is virtualy fool proof and makes coordination a lot easier.
Is the community interested in a tutorial on this? I could put one together if we felt it was worthwhile and would use it to coord being online.
Cheers,
