Ok guys, whats THE fastest processor maker out there? Im not talking about more mhz per dollar here, but if a P4 1000 mhz CPU is faster/slower than other brands 1000 mhz CPU, or any mhz for that matter!

Also will P4s work with Voodoo 5's? And whats the best motherboard to get?

The "sweet spot" in the CPU performance/price grid seems to be with AMD Athlon 1.0 ghz to 1.2 ghz. They are fast chips with today's applications and they are pretty inexpensive. Going to a faster AMD or P4 means paying a huge premium for small percenage increase in performance. My rule of thumb is that if the performance increase wouldn't really be noticable (e.g. 20% isn't noticable without a benchmark or side-by-side demonstration), then I would skip it, especially if it will cost an extra $500.

All Voodoo cards will NOT work with any P4 boards as of right now. Hell, they wont even fit in the AGP slot!

P4's run at a high voltage then other boards so that's the main reason it wont work. I'm guessing a PCI version might but don't quote me on that.

I'm buying a P4 1.5 that comes with (that's right, comes with the CPU) (2) 128 meg PC800 mem chips and an Mobo. Chip runs 400 and board runs 199. I'm getting it slowly since this is going to be anew gaming PC and i'm moving this gaming PC to a backup and upgrading the modeling PC. should be able to get a few good 3 player LAN games going.

You might want to check into the fastest athlon (1.33ghz right now?) with the right motherboard and the 266 DDR ram.

Yep, the way to whip a P4's ass is to get yourself the top Athlon (onsure what they are at now)

Best machine:

Athlon 1.33Ghz (just checked thier site)
top notch DDR Board (266mhz bus)(http://www1.amd.com/athlon/mbl/index/1,1503,,00.html)
PC2100 DDR SDRAM (obviously more is better)
and IMO a Voodoo 5 (purely cause I like having the option of Glide)

On every site I've seen almost any Athlon on a DDR board whips a P4

Get an Athlon. I got one, a 1GHz thing, along with 256mb RAM, and it's very fast.

any REAL PC store will have them, hell I never yet bought a fully built PC, you just go to the store and ask them for it, getting the Athlon shouldn't be a problem, but I suggest re realy have a good look through the link I gave above for reconmended Athlon boards, research each board and price it to see whats best for you, the motherboard is the most important part IMO because you can't make a mistake getting a CPU, regardless of which brand, it's simply a CPU, but there are very big differences in Motherboards. Infact, this motherboard I just got (Jetway 663AS Ultra) is a very cheap board, but it will take the Athlon 1.33Ghz, it's DDR and uses standard RAM, it's not the best or fastest solution, but it's right for me because it was very cheap, but thats just the point, you need to find which is right for you in price, chipset, number of slots, number of RAM slots etc etc.
