I've just upgraded my PC, from a PII-350 to an AMD Athlon TBird 1GHz with 256mb RAM. Some times, when I start Windows (98, that is), it loads just like normal, but when I try opening something, on the desktop or in the start menu, nothing wants to start up, except from My documents from the Start menu. I can use the mouse and keyboard fine, but nothing wants to open. A restart or two cures it. And when I do a three-finger salute (Ctrl+Alt+Del), two things called "Rnaap" and "Rundll32" are there in the list. What are those, and do they have any connection with the strange happening described above??IP: Logged |

Having just upgraded myself I think maybe I can help here.I had problems myself, I fitted the new board and CPU and expected that windows would sort itself out, with that good ole "New hardware found", well, most of it worked but there were still problems. The BEST way to sort this out is to simply re-install windows OVER your old installation, no need to reformat or nothing, but the re-install will fix your problems I'm sure IP: Logged |

Do you have the VIA 4in1 drivers installed? If not go to www.viahardware.com and get them - essential (v429a is the latest official set I think).Check the BIOS on start up. Try different memory speeds of you can. Or try disabling some the many BIOS features one by one to see if any of those are the culprit. IP: Logged |
