My good friend and squadmate Gecko made this oh so cool skin for his car in Nascar 4. Notice the images he has on directly from the World-at-War site. He even included the barb wire! I just wanted you guys to see this excellent work. Great job Geck! PR=FC= IP: Logged |

That's really cool!Being a fighter jockey for so long I've actually wanted to try a race car sim but I don't have the first clue about what's quality and what's cr... not. I mean what's the lingo for the race car simming set? Do they talk of Damage Models and Driving Models (like FMs)?? Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Grand Prix Legends, Dirt Track Racing, Nascar 4, and generally all sims, and I mean sims, made by Papyrus. They rock. Want to take a ride in a 1967 Lotus-Ford 49 F1 car through the Nürburgring's 200-odd turns?? Go get GPL!!!IP: Logged |

WernerHeck, I'm not sure as I've only recently started my journey into the world of racing. I have stuck my big toe in the online racing world before, but never really jumped head first into it. With Nascar 4 all that changed. This may be the best racing game I have ever played, including Grand Prix Legends. I have raced online with 40+ players!! While I have never driven a stock car, I can say this game really seems to have a good feel about it. Very much what I 'imagine' it would feel like. And...it's a blast!!!! Gecko, has done a GREAT job on the paint job of this car, and I look to him for guidence as I enter into the world of online racing. Funny isn't it, me a guy who lived in the Southern U.S. for 30 years, getting advice on racing stock cars from a guy from Slovenia! hehehehe Gotta love it! Oh, I drive a Ford, so up yours Psi!! See ya out at the track. PR=FC= IP: Logged |

Hi Werner, you guessed it right! Damage models and physics models is the lingo over there. Actually, I'd say that, mostly thanks to Papyrus, these aspects of simming are even better covered than their equivalents in the flight sim world (only SDOE seems to come close, and even this is not as refined). Grand Prix Legends and Nascar 4 are the two sims that lead the field (with Nascar 4 of course being much more refined, considering how much later it was released). One of the important aspects is setting up the car (suspension, aerodynamics, drivetrain), and what works in real life works in the Papyrus sims as well. In fact, at a point in the manual, they challenge real Winston Cup racers to bring their real life setups into the game and try them out. And real life Winston Cup racers do play it (Dale Jr. at least does, check www.bhmotorsports.com ). Take into account the very best multiplayer code I've ever seen in a retail sim (in terms of the number of players supported, it's more limited by the skill of the drivers than lag and latency issues, even on a regular modem connection if you're only joining, not hosting), force feedback effects that are very much like what you'd feel in a real car, very good AI, and it's easy to see why I regard Nascar 4 as the best game I've ever played. I haven't taken the CD out of the drive for weeks! (luckily, SDOE doesn't require it ). Oh, and PR, a lot of credit for the paintjob goes to you as well, you're the one who produced most of the decals. -Gecko =FC=

The worst part of that game is the nascar aspect. I HATE the constant circling. I would rather rally, or fomula 1 or sports car. SCGT was a really good racing game also. Pick it up cheap.

Spanky | Mad Dog,I've been biased towards circuit racing myself, and I had the same thoughts the first time I encountered Nascar Racing 4, but once you actually try it, you'll notice that 'going around in circles' requires just as much technical skill to pull of neatly as does any road course, and the setup is perhaps even more important. You're not doing yourself any favours if that bias of yours prevents you from enjjoying what is the finest simulation on the market currently. Besides, there are two roadcourses in the Nascar 2001 schedule . -Gecko IP: Logged |

Psi,actually, the paint scheme can be done independent of the marque, you can create it and then add decals for the appropriate car marque by a single click in Nascar 4. -Gecko =FC= IP: Logged |

Grand Prix Legends is the racing sim. I've been playing the game, and before that the demo, for over 3 years now and still can't call myself anything other than a very ordinary driver. I have recently got the Lotus down to the low 1:29s at Monza and am respectable on most of the tracks but what the real racers manage to do with these cars is beyond me.I would go as far to say that GPL is the best sim I have ever played. (SDOE Online is a very close 2nd; Lowgbow 2, Aces of the Pacific, Task Force 1942 and Tornado are also up there). But for sheer completeness: physics, AI, immersion, and quality of the add-ons (tracks, sounds and car graphics) GPL is the best. ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

Gecko, I agree with you in your razzing of Spanky. I have played with racing sims and find them every bit as intense as a flight sim. Like flight sims they are improving all the time, with graphics and the realizm of the actual sport. You did a great job on the paint, I was trying to see who I could get to with that comment, you win PR heheP IP: Logged |

Yardstick,I would have fully agreed with you a few weeks ago, since I had not tried Nascar 4 till then . N4 takes the GPL engine and all that's good in there and expands on it. Tyre wear and flat tyres, crumpled bodywork, loosing gears, it's all there. If you enjoy GPL (which you obviously do), do not miss Nascar 4! -Gecko =FC= IP: Logged |

For NASCAR 4 check out this site: www.carolinaonlineracing.com This site is done by a very good friend of mine, he lives about 6 miles from me. They have been racing since NASCAR 2. They are very good so newbies should not enter their races, plus you better be able to hold your line! Check it out and tell 'em Himdog told you about it.------------------ 7./JG3_Himdog out www.luftwaffe.net IP: Logged |
