Hey if you like moody sunsets try Janes WWII Fighters it has awesome sunsets and graphics and many of the missions are during the sunsets. I think the game kicks butt besides the graphics. Try this. http://www.janes.ea.com/legends/time_day.html ------------------ Ya gotta beat the rest to be the best. IP: Logged |

That isn't EAW Vahnatai.... 71 is talking about WW2 Fighters. And that game has some nice graphics. EAW, well, from what I have seen, they just suck graphics wise... but I haven't actually played the game, so take my word with a grain of salt.

I have WWII Fighters and EAW. WWIIF has some kicker graphics, but it stops short there. No linearity in the campaigns, I mean, first you fly a Thunderbolt, then in the next mission you're in a P-38 and such. Flight models also leave a lot to be desired. EAW has a great campaign and oozes atmosphere, but FM is also a bit dodgy. But EAW also has some nice sunsets . And if you wait long enough, just sit on the runway with full time compression, night will come, with a starry sky and all. That's really cool! Both of them are fun as 'fire-up-once-in-a-while-and-shoot-a-bit-' games, if you know what I mean.IP: Logged |

Yes, I painted the F104 and the MiG-21. Another ex-SDOE'er did the F104 model IP: Logged |

Also, to add to that. It's really great to be working for someone with this much experience in making sims. Whether you love them or hate them, LongBow 2 and EAW are very highly regarded as 'all time great' flightsims. There are stories behind both of those sims, and there are also stories about sims that got canned before anyone even knew about them. Unfortunately, signing an NDA means I can't talk about it. What a I can say, since it has already been said, is that this game will support user addons with ease. 3DS Max and GLMax (i think its that new and upcoming free max from discreet) will be supported. Most of the sim, including terrain will be open for user modification. I am learning quite a bit about how this industry runs and operates. Sadly, its mostly bad...a very turbulent industry to say the least. The flightsim industry really IS almost gone..contrary to what is being said now. On the surface things look pretty bright, but under the covers, all does not look rosey. Hopefully things will change as the hardware stabilizes. (mostly video cards) It will take one mega-hit to open the gates back up for development. Watching a sim get put together piece by piece is pretty neat, as well as having input in what goes into the game. Weighing the options over playability, ease of use, and realism is extremely tough. And in the in, sadly, the box art will sell the majority of the copies. I think we are headed in the right direction in that department though I do think that with all the talented folks that have been with SDOE during one time or another, there will be a great opportunity to continue these types of efforts in a newer sim with a new gfx engine. Everything that you can do with SDOE you should be able to do with this sim (hopefully). It will be left up to individual talents and imagination. IP: Logged |

I think things like WW2 online will bring the flight sim back. I know flying in that game wont be a sim as such, but surely within 3-4yrs we will have pretty complex 'total war' online play. I envisage a weekly tournament, maybe a televised event (only when graphics truly blow you away) where armies of 200+ take on each other with tank and air support. It would take massive organization, but perhaps people would have to practice offline to gain a certain level of skill (like bootcamp) before they'd be accepted into the game. In effect you'd have to earn your license before you could play. only people who have gained a high degree of experience could put themselves forward for captains roles etc. Maybe people would be hired to take on the general role week in week out. When this happens, flight sims will come back. First person, Armour and air will all be intergrated into games.IP: Logged |

I agree! It's really great to see sims being made by dedicated people, really aiming to make a quality product, not only saying they will and when it's released it turns out to be crap. Like the above 'Project 1' as it's called, and Target for Tonight, which seems to be a real kicker.IP: Logged |
