I've just been watching 'Dances with wolves' and I've come over all sad and depressed. This isn't a rant at the Us so please dont treat as such. All I want to say is that its such an awful shame that these proud civilisations weren't allowed to exist as they had.

I think many Americans today would agree with you. I don't know how America would look now if they had continued, but it is a shame that these civilizations were overwhelmed.

We're in the same boat. In Newfoundland for instance the native population was wiped out! Anyways, doesn't it make us look just a little hypocritical when we go slagging others on their human rights record?

Hell, ask the spanish about the Inca's.... It is part of history that is usually covered up pretty well. One people invades another's land and takes it over, then does thier level best to annhilate the original inhabitants. It has happened in all lands and in all times. We just had better ways of recording it in the last few hundred years.

Oddly enough, I was thinking of this same thing on my way into work the other day...

Everyone knows that the Nazi machine waged a war of genocide against the Jews. How many Americans are aware (or will acknowlege) that it wasnt really that long ago that we waged a war of genocide on the Native Americans....
