Hey guys, you all know I'm a huge A-10 Cuba! fan and have played it for years since it first came out in the beginning of 1996. Well, the Mac heads always had it one better over us because they can edit waypoints and make their own missions using A-10 Attack! along with A-10 Cuba! Well, for the past couple years I've been wanting to be able to play both these games (mostly for the mission editing part) on my PC, and last night FOR THE FIRST TIME I did! (The Mac versions!)

I installed a Mac emulator called Basilisk II and then downloaded (for free) Mac OS 7.5.3 from Apples site. I followed the directions here... http://www.kearney.net/~mhoffman/basiliskII/system753_tutorial/index.html

and then around 4 AM I was flying A-10 Attack! on my PC and happy as heck!
You do need a ROM to run it, and after a huge extensive web search I found a Mac Quadra 650 rom that worked great. A-10 Cuba! doesn't run all that great, but Attack! sure does. Just wanted to share the news.

My only problem with this now is having to use the mouse to fly with (or keyboard). I'm not sure how to make my joystick work. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Just curious. With Nat's A-10 (which I love by the way) in SDOE what is the differance in the game. How can we make SDOE better? Thanks...

Weasel, the only reason I like the old A-10 series is that the partical system it has is very cool. It looks so neat when an engine catches on fire and you see these black particals (smoke) coming off of it along with a large flame, followed by the extinguisher going off (white particals). That and just the great feel the A-10s have (nice and heavy feeling). Although there aren't any textures in the game I still just love the heck out of it. I guess I just like living/flying in the past.

Ahh-sweet A-10 Attack and A-10 Cuba! The flight sims that started me down this road that I now walk (to my wife's dismay).

Yep, the Mac folks had it all back when A-10 Cuba came out. We were the ones that could get the great A-10 training that came with A-10 Attack and could look at the chits on the mission maps and do all sorts of stuff. Ah-back in the good ole days .

Wish I could help you with your joystick problem Pete. Might need to find some kind of joystick Input sprocket if I remember about the Mac. I've got OS 8.5 sitting on the G3 that sits on my computer desk--but to be honest--I haven't turned it on in a while.

This might be of some help--but I'm not really sure if it will help. It came from my System folder in my Mac harddrive and its the Readme that comes before all of these input sprockets that sit in the System folder.

InputSprocket 1.3

Advanced Features:
Certain games specify some of their game functions as 'utility' functions which generally will only be accessible from the keyboard. In these cases, you can see these functions in any of the non-keyboard drivers' configuration panels if you hold down the option key before clicking on the appropriate popup. You also see other functions which InputSprocket has determined are not generally appropriate (like an x-axis in the popup for the y-axis of a joystick).

You can find the latest releases of InputSprocket at: http://developer.apple.com/dev/games/or ftp://ftp.apple.com/devworld/Games/

Support:
This software is provided as is. Please do not call Apple or the hardware manufacturer for technical support. Visit the above web address for more information about InputSprocket.

Just installed the input Sprockets but then realized I'm running MacOS 7.5.5 and not 8 or higher so it won't work. Any idea where I could find some older ones?

I wish I knew Pete. I couldn't remember when (which OS) all those input sprockets started taking over. I think this joystick problem may be a good question for the fella that wrote that Mac emulator program. He probably has seen this before.

A-10 flies great doesn't it? It always felt like a real airplane especially during the takeoffs and landings. You can plop it on when landing or really grease it on ---make a smooth takeoff or a lousy takeoff. I really loved this sim when I flew it and I loved learning all about ground pounding from it too as it was the first combat flight sim I played.

Wish I could be more help. I've actually got the opposite situation as I've got an Orange PC PCI card on my Mac that has a 200 mhz processor so I can run Windows on my Mac. I actually first flew SDOE on my Mac with this card-although FPS were terrible with only 32 MB ram on the Orange PC card and a 4 mb NVidia graphics chip too-hehe. I shortly after this bought a PC to fly SDOE and now I'm on my second PC as I've upgraded and have more flight sims than time to play them.

I got ya now Pete. I have an old 8-bit Atari 800 computer that I just cant seem to part with. It has an F-15 Strike Eagle game on it on a 4.25 inch floppy. Graphics were crude but it sure was fun blowing up the little square target.
