I got the good word the other day that I'll be testing this ground breaking sim. Are any other SDOE'ers on the beta team? If so it'd be fun to compare notes.[This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 04-13-2001).] IP: Logged |

I'm fairly sure your it Pete Maybe you could occasionally wander in over at www.ilyushin2.net and update us as the NDA allows... there's several folks over there that are on the Beta team (including Siggi - you remember Siggi, right?? ) but the more the merrier! There are quite a few SDOE'rs on that board and a number of faces from the old days too (Enthor, Pops, Sunchaser, etc...) -Stark IP: Logged |

Yeah-but pops and enthor were lots of fun till they got torqued off with SDOE's shortcomings and latched on to B17-2. Hope they don't get disappointed with IL2 too.Too bad folks can't just enjoy the positive and fun things about these flight sims instead of dwelling on all the shortcomings. Every sim I own has got its faults-- I guess I just try and enjoy the good things. I miss ole pops and enthor too. Funny and interesting guys. We really need more like em around here again. Well Jag... unfortunately websites are begining to get expensive to run. Pay to play is a fact we are all going to have to deal with sooner or later... at least that forum is only pay to post, unlike some other recent pay to play converts (*cough* combatsim *cough*). Pay to play certainly is not my preference... but I don't think 10 bucks a year will kill me either - I'd pay 20 or 30 for this site easily. As long as I can lurk for free I'm happy. If I really want to participate and it's not something outrageous (more than say a $1 a month) I'll pay to post. Lets everybody see what knowledge there is to be had, and still allows the person running the site to not have to worry about the cost of doing so. Not perfect, no - but it ain't a perfect world either. Also, it should be noted that Siggi is not running the site for profit - in fact, he's not even holding the funds. A thrid party is handling the funds and any excess beyond the cost of running the site (drive space and bandwidth usage costs) will be used to fund prizes for competitions and giveaways. Now, I know Siggi can be a bastard... but he is as good as his word (it's just that sometimes his word is that of a bastard ) so I know he's not skimming for profit.-Stark IP: Logged |

I still have the pre-beta that I got from my old job and I fly it every now and then. It's a really nice sim and I can't wait till they get all the problems fixed.IP: Logged |

Woah, talk about not being in a good mood hu? Atleast I had a good reason at the time But with that said, I'm still on the anti=pay per play side...... What's wrong with having it hosted on Virtualave or Webjump, ect? So you don't get a flashy domain name.... Big deal, %99 of people bookmark the site anyways, and if you add it to a few sreach engines (like you would anyways) it'd be easy to find it again. For the price, registering a domain dame for a game is wonky.IP: Logged |

Running a forum like Siggi's UBB on one of those free providers would get him dumped before he even had the whole thing uploaded. I'm anti-P2P too Jag, but after reading the fine print and watching other IL2.net community members grill Siggi over it, I decided to make this one exception. I'm pretty positive that siggi ain't in it for the money, I know for a fact that he has given away some of his surplus computer hardware and I think some plastic modeling stuff too.IP: Logged |

Maybe I had something to do with him charging to use the site. After a while that kind of became a gripe of mine. People posting and stuff all the time, and I was paying the monthly bills to keep it all running. After a while you start to think "Why am I doing all of this work for nothing?"Regardless, if I end up loving the game I just may have to end up sending Siggi a check. Afterall, in his kindness he sent me a beautiful P-51 model he built. That really meant a lot to me. IP: Logged |
