I'll take one of those too...

Hey SV - why don't you build one for FS? They've got some nice 3 views on their site... She isn't very fast but she's got a climb rate of a just a bit over 5000fpm (that's gotta be a typo right??) - and I bet she'd be wicked with a couple of 20's in the nose...

Nah, I'll stick with real ultra-lites.

Real ultralights don't cruise at 140mph with a 1200 mile range... I like flying around locally, but being able to go cross country is even better. Plus, it gets cold in ultralights in the winter...

The Challenger is sweet, and has a heated cabin... of sorts

I hear ya ArgonV, I am starting with a Challenger. But this one is next on my list for the reasons Stark gave. BTW Stark, that is not the kind of site that has typos, is it?

This aircraft is just very pretty... and it is very elegant. It is small and light, but still quick, and aerobatic!!! It is built to take advantage of the soon to be implemented "sports flyer" FAA rules. This looks great!

Get this: you can get this babby as a 51% homebuilt with 65 hours to build, no composit work! For just twice the cost, you get this plane in the same building time as a Challenger!!!!

Here is the cool part, under the new FAA rules you will be able to take up one passenger (if you have a pilot's license) and you can weight more... means you can fit a 4-stroke smooth quiet and reliable engine on!!!!

And also, the canopy comes off if you life the fresh air

You can get it factory built too, but there goes to 51% rule.. it is a real N numbered aircraft at that point...

I sure hope the new rules do go into effect! And they are increasing the proposed max cruise speed as well

I love this plane because it has the look of a high performance glider, like the Stemme, but it is so cheap, and so little maintainance cost under section 109!!!

While I see the appeal of home built a/c (I even saw a homebuilt jet kit in a Popular Mechanics a while back!! :eek : ), I don't think I could trust my life to my craftsmanship.

Looks very cool SV. Nice lines, imo.

But you will trust it to somebody you've never met who could, for all you know, have a raging heroin addiction and only sleep about 2 hours a day?

I'll take my workmanship over somebody elses (that I don't know) any day of the week... at least I know what is likely to kill me that way...

Werner,

All the hard and critical work is done on these kinds of 51%/49% homebuilts. All you do is really bolt the big parts together and install the engine. For the Challenger you need to cover it as well. Painting is a big step to, but you can just take it to a good auto painter.

You don't need any jigs or whatnot - you don't build any critcal parts - even the control linkages are installed

It is kind of a "trick" - the regulation for home built centers around "Steps" to completetion, not building time.

The basic gist is that, if you are willing to take any responsibility in completeting the aircraft, you get a break from certain rules
