Well, I have a brand new Saitek X36 Flight Controller... and I have to say it's very nice... good feel and not at all "twitchy" in FS.. but...I'm having a problem with doing a custom setup for the buttons on this thing.

So... unless you have one of these (or a similar Saitek product) the rest of this will probably bore you to tears...so get out while you still can!

It works fine with any press and release command - the "bounce" commands in the keyboard config file (like G) but on the commands that use shift - like raise flaps or shift numpad 5 to recenter the view - I can execute the command once but then it appears the "shift" key stays depressed - this renders the effect of the other buttons very unpredictable. I can correct the problem in flight by hitting shift on the keyboard a couple of times but that kind of defeats the purpose of programming the stick. In the programmimng interface ithas the keypress and release of the shift button for these command... is there something I'm missing here? If anybody has a good custom setup for FS for a X36 could you send me a copy? I'm thinking it may be a problem with the hardware... after all it is a refurb (though you wouldn't know it from looking at it).

Thanks for any help!

p.s. - even with the problem I'm having...this thing is very nice. It has the rudder control built into the throttle, instead of a twist base joystick... makes ground steering much easier and more precise and allows for better control (for me anyways) in turns. It also has a miniture joystick on the throttle right where my thumb sits that I have mapped to the pan views - works really, really well and seems to help with my SA quite a bit.

Stark I have a X36/35 and it was very bad in SDOE to the point where it is unuseable. Twitchy would be a kind word to use. Yes I used the stick works interface and it did make it work better but it still sucked. A $30.00 joystick works better than it! I'll sell it cheap if anyone wants it. About a custom setup for it I do have but I'll have to find it. I might have deleted it when I deleted all the saitek junk off my pc. Saitek is one joystick I would never buy again, they have a very bad support program and their sticks don't last very long. I went through a Cyborg 3D stick in about a year but I'll say it was a much better stick than the X36 will ever be.

Well... I only paid $40 for the setup... so if it become unusable at least I won't be out much (well, less than I paid for B-17 anyhow ). Mine seems to not be twitchy at all... smoothest stick I've had in FS actually - must just be lucky Was yours the digital/USB model? Thanks for looking for that custom config.

Mine is the game port, not the usb one. I'm at work so I'll look for it when I get home later today. I'll email you if I find it. If you need any help on any saitek go here: http://www.saitekhelp.com/
This guy doesn't get paid by saitek but he is the best around. Like I said the saitek support is very poor at best but this guy is great. If you have the USB version I should caution you if you install any new hardware to your pc with your joystick plugged in you could mess it up. I've hear about this by someone I know who had one. The word here is "had". Glad yours works for ya.

Excellent link Himdog! Looks like my problems may well be related to the version of the SGE software that I am running - so hopefully the upgrade will fix things for me.
