I pick it up for $10.00, it's not the best but I like it. Does anyone know of a good forum for Jane's WWII fighters, also a good place for dl's (if there are any)? Thanks

I think Dogfighter has a site they host...I haven't really checked it, so don't know how good the forum and DL's are, but one of the guys on the forum has a Uncle who flew 51's in WWII and he has provided a couple of real neat stories, which a poster called Saint 19 reprinted in SimHQ's Battle Of Britain forum.

Definitely go to ww2f.dogfighter.com

There is a 3d editor just released and the FW190A has been converted to a (top quality) Fw190D.

Thanks guys. Wow that should keep me busy for awhile. I know you might not know this and I'll post this up on one of the WWII forums but are those planes (the ones that didn't come with the game) flyable by humans?

Heya Himdog. It's on the discount rack chez moi as well, not sure if I'm going to get it though. What's your take on the game, ups/downs compared to SDOE, particularly from the persepective of a LWer.

Werner,

I can give you some feedback on this.

Good:
Aircraft are gorgeous
Evening, dawn and dusk lighting effects.
Lot's of missions
Damage effects are top notch
Ground objects are the best of any sim.
Neat control features like pop-up instruments

Bad:
Feels like the planes are flying in syrup. Hard to explain, but a snappy response doesn't seem to exist.
After SDOE flight model seem mediocre at best.
I've had more ctds in this game in 2 weeks than I've had in the 1.5 years I've owned SDOE

I recommend WWII Fighters.

The effects and planes are very pretty. The FM aint all that bad and the cockpits have yet to be beat. (I think Il-2 will beat them. B-172s fighter cockpits are on par with WWII Fighters cockpits) and Ive only had 2 CTDs with WWII Fighters since buying it 2 years ago. I still play it to this day.

Hey for $10.00 you can not lose. I flew a dawn Jabo mission with a Fw190A8 and my jaw hit the ground! It looked great. To get an outside view of that A8 shooting it's cannons at dawn is priceless. The bomb concusion from the hitting the targets looked just like Battle Zone's. The sounds used in the game are much better than SDOE, the way the plane creaks and the pilot moans are good effects. The pilot's head also moves around when you pull some G's so that takes getting used too. The career is just missions put together, one mission you fly the A8, next the 109G and then the 262. The quick fly is very easy, you can set time of day, plane type (I think 7 kinds), mission type but too bad you can not start on the runway. All in all the missions are good, so far but like I said the career is just missons put together. The ground is ok, the cool thing is the ground targets move. I even saw some deer running around, maybe next time I might go deer hunting with the A8. But the planes do feel like flying in syrup, they got that same feel as EAW and CFS2. I'm not saying this is bad but it is not SDOE. You know SDOE feels different than all those others but which is really right? I'm not a real pilot so I don't know. I can tell you that WWII fighters is a buy at $10.00 and I'll keep flying it. Just to see the Bf 109G do a fly by and the sound that it makes, wow!! I got Mig Alley for $15.00 about 4 months ago, flew it maybe 15 times and now it's off the HD. Oh, so far no CTD's but SDOE well I lost count somewhere a loooooooooooooong time ago.
Cheers
