Yep even the 3dfx haters gotta admit they would rather they were still around after seeing that price. It will probly be around 1100 up here in Canada. And yes you can build a decent budget gaming machine for that amount - monitor. Friggen rip off. Lets just hope the game makers don't all assume that we are all going to have one and over build the games coming out over the next year IP: Logged |

I've bought cars for less than that. However, all those cards are mucho expensive. A Voodoo 5 is around $500 plus the government's cut from one of our suppliers here in London, Ont. And they LIKE me!IP: Logged |

You're kidding, 'Game' were dumping V5s for £99 before Cristmas. Even now you'd be hard pressed to pay more than £150 in the highstreet let alone on-line.IP: Logged |

Pricing cards out of the customer's reach is not what put Nvidia ahead of 3dfx.The price will come down... maybe not as fast as before, but as much ------------------ -Sv Wings with Wires IP: Logged |

The boards will come down. Shit, the GeForce 2 ultra was almost 500 bucks during its initial release. Granted, this 600 dollars for a NV20 is steep, but its 'only' 100 bucks more. It will come down...not too many folks will shell out those many clams for a video card....even if it is the only game in town. IP: Logged |

You guys need to remember that nVidia is not in the board business- they only make the chips that go on the boards. There will be competition amongst the various board makers (Creative, ASUS, ELSA, etc..) to drive the cost down. Right now the prices are very high because there isn't a large chip volume being produced but there is a large demand from board manufacturers for the chip... as poduction ramps up and demand begins to slack off a bit the price will drop. This is really no different than what happens when a new processor is relelased - prices are intially very high because production yield cannot meet demand.-Stark IP: Logged |

K guys, everyone here that complained about the prices knows its only the MSRP at lauch. We know its going to drop. But the fact remains that even at half that price, 300 USD its still above the money I would spend on a vid card. That would still be 500 Canadian. Yes people will buy it and thats cool But its still a little crazy. And like Dan said this card is 100 more then the last card at release, you can't tell me thats not cause they know there is no compition. Hopefully they will make a more resonably priced version like the geforce 2 mx. It seems like the price of computer parts drop over time and become better deals except vid cards. IP: Logged |

$300 was the most i spent on my video card. which was the geforce ddr right when it came out. The card still runs all of my games great, the only one that has truly taxed it was B-17, probably the only game that had me play at 800x600. 1024x768 was still playable as long as there was only 6 bombers. but even Giants ran well at 1024 with 32bit color. So a card at that caliber really isnt needed until the software really demands it or if your a big speed freak and are willing to shell out the money, go for it. IP: Logged |

Sadly, to obtain the optimal frame rate from SDOE you are better of chucking that $600 at a new CPU. As SDOE is CPU limited as opposed to GPU limited. IP: Logged |
