The P-51 I had to special order. Should be here Friday or Monday. The Panther pic does NOT do it justice! It's beautifully detailed in person and looks GREAT! Bf109, it's heavenly. Prop spins, canopy opens, flaps move (a little, not much), tailwheel moves/rolls, mains roll and retract. Cockpit is amazing and so is included pilot. Very posable. These 21st Century Toys models as I like to call them (Toys doesn't fit them, they are much too nice) are every SDOE fans dream. I can't recommend them enough to you all. One more thing... These are big, high quality, solid models with moving parts (not flight controls though except flaps unfortunately). The Panther's hatches all open/close, treads/bogies roll, turret and gun move, and it just looks awesome sitting here. I'll shut up now. I'm a walking talking advertisement for www.21stcenturytoys.com now. Here are the dimensions in case anyone is wondering how big they are. Now that I've just measured them they are much bigger than I previously thought (and have been telling friends). The scale is 1:18th. Bf109 L: 19 inches W: 22 inches H: 8 inches (gear extended to highest prop tip) Panther L: 20 inches (from barrel tip to exhausts) W: 7 inches H: 7 inches btw, when I was about 12 years old my mom took me to an antique/auction house in Ohio. We were walking around and out of the corner of my eye I saw a tail of a plane. I walk over to it and it's a HUGE battery operated 727 Jet, a perfect scale plastic model that was not at all cheezy. I think the wingspan must be about 45 inches on it and I've never seen one anywhere else. I'm trying to think how much it'd bring in on Ebay. Any ideas? Btw the motors that drove the wheels stopped working long ago but I bet with some work I could fix it. I may just end up keeping it but right now it's in my Dad's attic in Ohio and I'm in California. If I remember correctly my mom paid about $10 bucks for it and I was the happiest kid around for a long time

21st century also make a great 1/6th scale Stuart tank, though thats probably too big for most. Have you seen the dragon 1/6th scale figure range? US and German troops from WW11. Theres also a vietnam and korea range starting. Also lots of modern figures (Swat, Gulf war etc). The 1'6th scale kublewagen they have looks amazing. You should check them out at http://www.dragon-models.com

Werner,I'm looking into it. I left a msg with the wholesale dept at 21st Century to see about carrying some of their line on my site. So we'll see. The Panther tank above in the pic, all this time I've been calling it a Panzer. Oops [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 02-01-2001).] IP: Logged |

Pete -Panther is PzV Tiger is PzVI Kingtiger is PzVII (Although I've seen it written as a variant of PzVI) I don't know why our side started calling them Panthers and Tigers instead of Panzers 5 and 6 late in the war. Maybe they lumped PzIII and PzIV together and called them 'Panzers' and the newer tanks they called by name. Just a thought. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Aladar,I ordered it through Amazon.com. I typed in toysrus.com and now Amazon.com has merged with them. Do a search on Amazon for 21st and all of their cool items will come up. It was $29.95 but the shipping is EXPENSIVE (if you are like me and want it in a day or two ) Thanks for the info Werner. You know what I'm eyeing now? I stumbled across a couple R/C tanks that are each less than $175 bucks. The expensive part is getting shipped from Japan though. On this page http://www.modeltanks.fsnet.co.uk/tankspecs.htm#th1/25 look at 1/16th M1A1 Abrams by Doyusha and 1/25th Type 90 by Tokyo Mauri The Abrams is WAY cool although not very accurate I've heard in the scale dept. It's about 25 inches long, has lots of cool features and working lights (and of course it drives, turns, backs up, turret turns, gun raises and lowers). It's $171 plus shipping from Japan. The Type 90 (a Japanese tank) is about 16 inches long, does everything the Abrams does (except the lights) AND it actually shoots 6mm plastic BBs (pretty powerfully too I've heard). Right now it runs about $128 plus shipping from Japan. My only problem with these RC tanks though is that the speed is NOT proportional. It's either full speed ahead or off. I'll let you know if I end up with one, and take some nice pictures too. Actually the Abrams (comes in Tan and also Euro colors) can be seen in many pics here... http://www.rcpanzer.de/ under models click on M1A1. Here's a couple of the M1A1... And the Type 90, this one shoots! It has a built in self charging air pump/gun system (this company also makes real air guns). This is kinda funny that I'm so into tanks right now. You know why? I just applied for an electronics technician job with Armtec Defense. Their main customer is the US Army. I would be working at the plant that produces ammunition for the M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank I'll let you all know if I get the job. IP: Logged |

Werner, Panzer is the German word for tank. (I know you knew that) Tiger is the german word for... well, Tiger. Maybe they called the Tiger a Tiger because to them, that's what it was. Fast, deadly and not easily killed. Same goes with the Panther...In the begining, I guess they decided to call all armour on treads Panzer (Tank) with a Roman numeral at the end. (The Roman numeral dictating the type of tank) But then maybe they found out that writing "Panzer XXIIIV" would take up too much space when writing it so they started naming them affectionately? Or maybe they just wanted to piss off us Americans by changing their ways... IP: Logged |

I wouldn't be surprised, Argon, if the PzIII and IV had their own names. I mean just about everything else with tracks did, from the Maus to the Marders to the Wespe, Elefant, Hummel, Wirblewind, etc. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

There were no "official" names given to any Panzers through the MkIV. The convention of assigning official names was not really picked up, with a few exceptions, until 1942.------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

These tanks are called "Panzerkampfwagen" then the mark or number, there are no offical names (as far as I know). Panzer means "armored" not tank but we as Americans twist the word to mean "tank". Panzerkampfwagen means "armored fighting vehicle". I'm sorry but the "Tiger" was not fast, it was very under powered for it's size and had a very weak transmission which was never really fixed. It's 88 was good but not great because it wasn't a "long" which has greater velocity. The Panther's 75 had more penetration than the Tiger's 88. The Tiger also had a very high silhouette and poorly sloped armor. Werner there is no name for the Pz III and PzIV. If anyone wants I can post all the "nick names" and the penetration for each gun for the German tanks. There is also a great story on how the PzIII and Pz IV came about. Pete those are some nice looking models. Question do they have a German R/C WWII tank? ------------------ 7./JG3_Himdog out www.luftwaffe.net [This message has been edited by Himdog (edited 02-05-2001).] IP: Logged |

My P-51 Mustang arrived today from Amazon.com. It's pretty cool, but overall the Me-109 is a better quality model. The Mustang has a 25" wingspan and is 22" long nose to tail.Pros... It's big! It's solid! It's only $29.95 if you can find it. Has a pose-able pilot, sliding canopy, retractable landing gears/doors, spinning prop. Very nice Lou IV paint job with invasion strips. It also has two detachable drop tanks (see pic above). Cons... The model surface seems to be VERY prone to scratches whereas the 109 has a much nicer feel to it, and more scratch resistant. Mine arrived with what seemed to be scratches to the paint, but the more I look at it they may be deliberate markings to give it a more "worn" look. I know the Kubelwagon I saw at Toys R Us had this, so that may be the case. The wings don't appear to have any dihedral in them! Bummer, it's a very flat wing which just looks odd. The 109 is much nicer with a great looking dihedral built into the wings. Overall the more I look at it the more I like it. For the size and price it's worth the money.
