You know, if I saw/heard/felt something like many of these people claimed to, I would be completely fascinated, not terrified.

I've always wanted to experience something like that, but as of yet, either haven't noticed or been in the right place I guess. I'm willing to bet the former.

Never experienced planes......but I have seen a 'ghost' and heard something I couldn't explain too. Footsteps on a gravel path...clear moonlit night, in a cottage miles from anywhere....couldn't see anything including whatever was making the footsteps....

Also spent a few minutes looking for a cat at a friends cottage in Wales....saw it run into the back passageway of the cottage. I knew they didn't have a cat, so I thought it was a stray...went to get it....it wasn't there. There was no way out either. Then they told me about the ghost. The passageway led to what used to be the front door, long since bricked up....

It's a VERY odd sensation. Not frigtening...not comfortable either....very odd

I don't know Gustang... I once thought the same thing about being fascinated. My only experience in this was in a very old home that we lived in for 2 years in Michigan. I was in the walk-in pantry one night in July at about 8:30, it was a hot evening about 85F. The temperature of the room suddenly, and I mean suddenly, dropped about 20 degrees (far enough that my breath steamed for a moment) I got a very strong feeling that I can only describe as "unwelcomeness". Creeped the hell out of me. Was 2 weeks before I went back in there. The rest of my family had similar experiences in various locations around the house (although none of them felt "unwelcome" just watched) - the owner (it was a rental) said that the previous occupants had described the same sort of thing.

Nowadays... I'd just as soon not experince anything "paranormal"...

Heh, surprised the thread hasn't moved yet.

I hear ya, stark.

I very well may soil my pants when/if I come across something like this; however, I also realize that far less frequent than people encountering these phenomenon, is anyone harmed in any way.

I used to have a great fear of being alone in the woods at night too, but after a few encounters and understanding that the smallest of animals sounds like a clumsy elephant (ok maybe not that noisy) in the silence there, I could begin to relax and enjoy being there.

I've run into strange feelings like that before too, but nothing I could either validate or share with someone else.

I still think I would enjoy spending time in a 'hot' spot (provided I wasn't alone ).

CRIPES! How'd I miss this one!

You guys will dig this...

I was roughly 12-14 years old... I had fashioned a "workout room in my families basement. One night I was wandering around the basement after a rough set squats (yeah I know, never squat without a spotter)... I came upon one of my dads old bowling balls... I gave it a push with my foot and it rolled nearly 15 to 20 ft. away and came to a dead stop. "flipantly" I yelled out "get back here"... to my shock and and horror... it rolled all the way back to me and stopped at my feet!!!! (suffice to say, I beat it up those stairs and didn't return until the next "day".

As I understand, my mothers father slept in our basement until his death there (lung cancer).. in this very basement.

...

Just one of those moments in life that scaes the crap out'a you!

Actually...

Not many years after that I attempted to "justify" the incident...

upon examining the basement floor... I noted the flood-drain was "behind" the location where the bowling ball came to rest... So "technically" it should have been impossible for it to role "uphill" (unless my dads foundation was really hosed)

Believe me... I'm a pretty "don't believe it unless i can prove it" type of guy... and I have no explanation for this.

Hehe Zur...

Nothing to do with ghosts...

That was your telekenetic powers at work.

LOL! That brings up a wonderful point however:

How often have we incorrectly explained away a supernatural phenomenon when the true reason for its occurrence was even more outlandish?

Now _that's_ irony.

I've got one for you. Easter break 2000 I was in France for two weeks with my family, and for the first part of the trip we were on a coach tour. One of the stops on the tour was a very interesting castle (believe it was called Chenonceau, but I know for sure it is known as the "Lady Castle" and it happened to have been built over a river in such a way that downed airmen in WW2 used it to get from Nazi-occupied France to Vichy France). Anyways this castle isn't huge, but it has a long history. On the top floor there are several rooms, but only one is open to the public. The walls are painted black, with the white logo of that particular era's King and Queen on it, which was two white feathers with the first initials of the King and Queen intertwined at the bottom. As I recall there was something about the way the initials were joined together that from a different perspective they looked like the initials of the King and his mistress. Anyhow, the King died long before the Queen, and the queen had the room painted black when she went into mourning. She stayed in mourning until her death a long time later. All that's left in the room is the bed, a painting and a substantial dresser opposite the bed with a stone bust of Christ on top. When I was on this floor there was another guy in the room who was oohing and aahing over the painting. I read my brochure, made some mental notes and went on about my business. When I got back to the bus, a guy a year younger than me from Chicago sat back down next to me like usual, but was really quiet. I asked him what he thought of the castle, and his response was somewhat forced. I looked at him, and he goes, "ok, you're going to think I'm crazy, but the wierdest thing happened - I was on the top floor alone in that black room with the white flower thingies on the wall, and I was really quiet, reading the little guide book, and all of a sudden the whole dresser started to shake like crazy. I went over to the dresser and tried to open the doors but they were locked. The shaking stopped and then I heard someone come up the stairs onto the floor (another person on the self-guided tour), and I wasn't alone anymore. Crazy, huh?" I took the story with a grain of salt because being somewhat older than him this guy, nice as he was, had been trying way to hard over the previous week to try and impress me or something. I dunno, boys. . Anyways, the bus continued and we stopped at another castle soon after. My dad, who had been sitting at the other end of the bus and who had no contact with my travelling companion other than the odd group dinner during the trip, then came up to me and related an almost identical story - alone on the top floor, in the far corner of the room quietly examining the painting on the wall, when the dresser started to rattle like mad. It stopped as soon as another person came up onto the floor.

I went and talked to Dirk our tour guide, and he said that while he had taken several groups to the castle before, he had never had this happen, or heard of it happening to other groups.

Creepy, no?

Heh, interesting WM.

First thing that comes to mind is that the rattling is somehow connected to vibrations from someone ascending the stairs. When the entire group on the floor, the vibrations are dampened somehow.

Next thing I could imagine is the castle staff in the basement with their grinning face lit by a monitor and their finger on a big red button.

Gustang - we're talking castle here, old school castle with wall and floor thickness of stone measured in feet - no sissy floorboards here. Also both described the rattling as violent, and I mentionned this dresser was substantial, about 5 feet high and at least a couple hundred pounds as it had very solid construction.

Werner, what do you get when you mix French termites and French wine?

Uh, psycho termites who like to twitch violently when only one person is around to see them (odd sense of exhibitionism, if you ask me)?

I don't really care if you're skeptical, but I think that there is something unnatural about that room and that floor, and it isn't termites in the sock drawer. In any case if you (anyone) have the opportunity to visit Chenonceau, kick the rest of the group off the top floor and stand in the black room silently for a short while. Who knows? It might just happen to you too.

Werner

P.S. While we hadn't had wine at that point in the day, or any other French spirits, I have to say I love a country where you can get steak and wine in the "budget" cafeteria at road stops around the country. Almost makes those "peages" worth it.
