Well, part way at least. Just saw an article on Sharkyextreme.comIntel is releasing an 800MHZ Celeron that has a 100MHZ FSB. (About time)
This is cool, because the cache on a Celeron is ont the chip die and runs at the same speed as the CPU, even though it's smaller than the cache on a P3. The cache on a P3 runs at 1/2 to 1/3 the speed of the CPU cuz it's on a seperate piece of silicon from the CPU and is accessed by an external bus.
Tests on the old Celeron 300A overclocked to 450 by using a 100MHZ FSB showed it outperformrd a PII 450 in all categories, and actually beat a PIII 450 in most of them. The old Celeron didn't support the SSE instruction set so fell behind the PIII in 3D tests, BUT the newer Celerons DO support the SSE set.
Have to wait a couple of weeks to see what the street price will be, but MSRP is $170
