Does anyone have any links to websites that they know of dealing with the folks who rescued the P-38 from underneath the ice?Tried a couple search engines and just got piles of gobble-dee gook. Thanks for any help. ------------------ Mk10 Maj=225th= IP: Logged |

Mk, Is that one of planes they found in Greenland/Iceland ???? There was a few if I remember correctly...some(all??) were crushed by the moving ice. If it's the same lot, I remember seeing either a web page or magazine article on them. I'll have a look if you like. Cheers, AGAS 5 IP: Logged |

I plan on visiting the museum soon also! One of my coworkers is a pilot and we are planning on flying near there for breakfast and then on the museum. It will be a Saturday for me to remember. I get to fly and then I get to see a real P-38! weaselIP: Logged |

There was a PBS show a while back too about a heavy, either B29 or B24 that landed in Greenland and the crew escaped somewhere, abandonning the plane. This team went back to fix up the plane and fly it home, but it caught fire on the runway taking off and burnt to a crisp. It was really sad to see one of these warbirds just go, right before your eyes...Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Thanks AGAS and Smokey. The Dr. Stricker fella will be speaking at a luncheon in February to a group of folks related to my business. Apparently he will have a powerpoint demonstration or a slide show or something and talk about the rescue mission. I knew a little bit about it, but wanted to know more. Now I realize that the "Glacier Girl" hits were about the plane itself. Cool. (Pun intended.) Thanks again for your help! ------------------ Mk10 Maj=225th= IP: Logged |

werner, it was a b-29. PBS also had a special on "glacier girl" a few years ago. you can keep up with the plane on the website and watch them rebuild it piece by piece.------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin "Making SDOE a dangerous Place, One plane at a time!" FS Hangar IP: Logged |
