I know in a previous post I said I would wait, but while shopping at the local Best Buy, I spied a lone copy sitting on the shelf and you know me, I had to get it.

It was turned sideways and I almost missed it.

All I can say about it is, What the hell is up with this game??

I haven't been this confused since I got married. I am having a hard time getting any pleasure out of it. And for $49.95 you can bet I was expecting some.

With all the build up I suppose I was in for a fall but not this hard.

Flying the Bomber and getting anything accomplished is impossible and the Fighters are a joke compleatly.

I consider myself an above average sim pilot and with this game I feel like I am bigest newbie on the planet.

I haven't had but about 4 or 5 hours on it and it gives a headache after about an hour so I shut it down.

The only thing I do like is the gunnery aspect. I think it is as real as I have ever seen. Sadly that has been the high point of my experience.

I hope it gets better with support and patching.

This thing is driving me nuts.

B-172 is no jump in and have fun game. You MUST read the manual! If you dont you will be completely lost. Ive just about read the whole manual (At least the important parts) and I still cant hit a damn target with the Norden. (I get closer every time tho! ) I havent even tried navigating yet. And as for the fighters... they look sweet! The detail in the cockpits is AMAZING. BUT the FM is very poor. The DM isnt bad tho. Ive shot down many a fighter with a fighter too... its hard work! But Im getting better at it. Sometimes I just take a fighter up for a bomber stress relief and reak havoc upon the B-17 formation. I havent even jumped into the Me-262 cockpit yet.

This game also requires ALOT of tweaking to get it to run descently.

I enjoy it even tho it has many faults. I like sitting in gunners positions and blowing crap outta the sky that flys by. There are also many things that I dont like one bit. (The way the terrain draws infront of your face and the crappy cockpit view system) A patch is SERIOUSLY needed.

P.S. In case you havent figured out... Im a bomber fanatic!

I'm glad Argon is liking it.. I spent a week with it but found it extremely frustrating.

I'm able to bomb the practice target deadon but the user interface for the navigation screens is horrible to the point where I can't even control the course of the plane.

I'm still waiting for this game to be finished......

There are just too many people out there who can't get anything good from this game. It's scary ... really scary!

I read posts from people who can't play it, can't enjoy it or just wish they hadn't bought it, and I think thats £30 from each customer for a product they regret buying...

Those that get it working, have the PC to drive the game ( read the SIm HQ review of B17....it's the only unbiased one I found so far! ) and can get to grips with what seems to be a very restrictive interface, seem to really like it!

Can't afford to take that chance....I didn't spend £30 on Turkey for Christmas, and I won't do it now!

Didnt buy the turkey?!?!?

Yeah B-172 was a pain in the ass trying to get it to run descently... The fighters still jerk through the air (When you are playing a fighter. They look smooth when in the B-17)

Mhhhm I personaly read the bombs-away forum
on a regular basis and I've seen a lot of
people compaining about CTD. I've never ever
had one (well no I had a couple but after
engreasing the VMemory and Upgrading to DX8
no problems!).

Altough I'm a big bomber fan too (more the
RAF point of view), I completely agree with
the general 'feeling' that this game isn't
finished. I've played for about two weeks
constantly (not 24hrs ..just on the evenings) and I'm realy waiting for a patch!

Also: I'm alot disapointed by all those
promises made by WAYVARD, who are not fullfiled (imagine on the german box there's even mentioned that you can fly the BF110...
so where is it?????)

To finish up..$49.95 it's tooo much for a
game with this problems!

...and yes you definitely need to read the
manual.

cheers

Well, already posted my views elsewhere, but I have both B17 and Rowans BoB, and between the two, I got B17 running very nicely in less than a hour; I am still working with BoB itself, and some nagging system video problems caused by getting it to run well.

For me, both were overpriced; for what I enjoy in B17 ( the gunner positions ) it should have only been 20 bucks, and BoB should have been 5 bucks for the engine, as each user has to make it work him/her-self. One big difference is that Rowan 'talks' patch details, where Wayward just says they are working on it. Why do I get the feeling neither patch will cure the main ills of both sims?

You are probably right Neal.

I have heard that there are problems with DirectX 8.

Has anyone had problems with version 8 causing problems or effecting the other games on your system?

I installed DX8 and my joystick started spiking badly along with momentary freezes of action
I checked it calibration and it was fine in windows. It just did it in the game.

I reinstalled DX7a and it is running ok but not near the speed of FSDOE or CFS2.

Btw, I ordered another 128 megs of ram, which will put me at 384 megs total. The order is really unrelated to the problem I am having with B17II now, but it couldn't hurt for future sims.

Did Rowan use the same engine as FCG in BoB? IMO that is the only game (FCG) Rowan put out that was good, the rest was only fair at best. I got Mig Alley for $10.00 in the bargin bin which was about the price it was worth. B17II, I don't think I'll get it with all the problems people are having. I'll just wait for it to hit the bargin bin.

Himdog...yes!

It was in MA and FCG( I bought MA from the bargain bin too..) and is showing it's age!

B17II will wait until it's fixed or hits the bargain bins too. I'm hoping the US release will scare the company into fixing it's product. You shouldn't need a degree in computer science to get a game to run. Call me old fashioned, but I like to install a game and run it....end of story. A few tweaks to get best performance are one thing, but a game that locks up, crashes, and stutters like crazy unless you own a Cray Supercomputer or turn off all the detail is ( unprintable expletive deleted )
