Spanky here... They were pretty good. Another dragster one, but better then the british one last week. I didn't have high hopes for that motorcycle till i heard it tearing down the track the first time. Then I started to root for it. Just goes to show ya a huge powerfull v8 isn't the only way to win a race. I REALLY didn't think the air cannon was going to work on the pumpkin one, not that the idea was bad but I wasn't sure if they were going to be able to impliment it that well. Both cool. I really can't wait for that buggy race next week though. Although I'm wondering how they will get them not to just strip a car of non vital parts and drive it. Ah well we shall see. IP: Logged |

Yeah great show. What happened to the male host? They replaced him with a more Americanised version that I don't really like as much.------------------ Hawk Forum manager and bar keep http://rcwarbirds.com/ IP: Logged |

I miss Robert Lewellyn too.. a bit of trivia, he played 'Kryten' on the TV show Red Dwarf. IMHO they should have just aimed the air powered one straight at the castle all three shots.. it was pretty amazing how well both machines worked ! It reminds me of a documentary I saw where they recreated a full size trubuchet that hurled 200 pound iron shot. The thing was huuuge... TS IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Hawk, thats cause its the american run. I didn't like him at first either but he kinda grew on me. Glad they still used the same girl though. If you notice the teams were both american and it was a different junk yard, thats why i'm thinking this is the american run. IP: Logged |

Spanky, the best bit about the British drag racer episode was the teamwork! The v8 motor shredded it's gearbox, and the other team helped them re-build it!Still, drag racing is all about power to weight ratio's.....and skill. Don't want to give too much away on the buggy front, but anyone asked to build a dunebuggy from scrap should be kept well away from Volkswagen Beatles.... p.s. another bit of trivia.... Robert Lewellyn was actually the second Kryten.....the part was originally played by someone else, who's name I can't remember! He wasn't as good, though! IP: Logged |

Personally I dont care for the americanized version. The only remaining British aspects of the show are the host (the female) and the location. Monty python is revered by many americans and its entirely British. Why did TLC see the need for this?I liked it much better before, when there were American teams, but also British ones. Now theyre ripping apart oldsmobiles instead of land rovers. I hope at least some of the parts in the yard are european. And American units are so much more ugly and prone to error than Metric. SPanky here... Flack. TLC as far as I can tell didn't have any thing to do with the british series. THey liked it, ran it on the air, got a good feedback and started an american version, just like who wants to be a millionare. Whats the problem with that? And As far as I could tell its taking plane in the states. Why would they ship the american teams all the way over there when they could just get the girl to come over here and cohost? WTG, I don't remember them rebuilding the gear box nor to I remember any help, they just cut off the read end and put it back on upside down. Falck if you didn't notice the name also changed why? I guess they didn't think americans would know what a scrapheap was. And WAR appeals to more people. Yes american units suck eggs. I have to use feet/inches all the time in construction and its a chore to teach morons how to measure something and give me a reliable reading. IP: Logged |

Think the first guy was only in that one episode, Lewellyn was in 5 years worth. His book "The man in the rubber mask" is pretty interesting reading."Kryten's original actor, David Ross, wasn't available to commit to a series when Grant Naylor decided to make Kryten a continuing character, so he was replaced by Robert Llewellyn. (Ross later returned in "White Hole" as the new voice of Talkie Toaster.)" Strangely enough Lewellyn also was cast in an AMERCIANIZED version of red dwarf where the cat was a woman, tapes in california. The pilot was a horrible failure and the show never went on the air.
I read the original cast will be in a red dwarf movie with a budget of $15 mil pounds set to release 2001. TS IP: Logged |

I make no apologies for the fact that I agree with the opinion expressed by Falck. If for no other reason than adding that bit of international flavour was nice. I'm glad they kept the girl, I just don't find the new host as funny, and I don't see the same chemistry between the hosts as there was before. Oh well, the show's still cool. I think ideally there would be teams not just from the US and UK, but elsewhere as well. I liked both the dragsters and the pumpkins, but to the Americans out there, I gotta ask - do you really call them punkins? God, that annoyed me so much, I realize it's tomato/tomato (work with me here) but still, if you open that dictionary... Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Yeah, the "punkins" bugged me, too. And I agree that this new guy is trying too hard to be funny and has ended up being just annoying. Hopefully, he'll figure it out in the later episodes.IP: Logged |
