Hi All! I wish you all a very Happy New Year. All the usual stuff and more. And now some reflections. I just came back from a New Years party and it is not what it used to be It's nigh on imposible to dance through the whole night, one must stop to drink a glass of sparkiling stuff in order to survive the race. Girls seem not to be interested in dancing anymore, instead they perform some kind of trance goose stepping, arm waving and so on. Not once they played a waltz nor even Waltzing Matilda, what the heck? The slow dances nowadays seem to be some uncoordinated treading with no battle plan at all. The music is... err, strange, I understand jumping is entertaining but to a limit. Three minutes is well enough! All the drinking buddies are gone, nobody wants to get pissed proper anymore either. Where is the fun in those gatherings ? I think I'll go back to playing SDOE on line despite this awful lag I get. Salute all! Yours disturbed ------------------ 9./JG3_Poniat IP: Logged |

Even I, as a 15-year-old, like Roy Orbison and The Beatles more than I like this crap they call music that zerstörs your eardrums in no time. I mean, why do people like music that sounds like a buffalo herd stepping on crushed glass, when there is better, although older, if you call fourty years old, music around IP: Logged |

Don't get me started. Oh well, too late.It is very warming to hear that some of the younger guys like the music I grew up with. I thought it was good then and still do now. In todays music world where designer boy groups and cookie cutter young ladies sing the same things to the same beat cd after cd it is hard to find originality and pure talent. Watching Dick Clarks rockin' new years eve for the 26th time last night I was put to sleep by the line up of boy groups and such that I call style music. Dick CLark even looked bored. Ok, flame me but things are not well in the music factory, er, industry. ------------------ Hawk Forum manager and bar keep http://rcwarbirds.com/ [This message has been edited by Hawk (edited 01-01-2001).] IP: Logged |

Well, it's an interesting time.Amid the dreck and droll of today's music, occasionally you have someone worth a toot poke their head through, like the Foo Fighters or Blink 182, people who understand what rock 'n roll is all about. But so often, it's people who have no concept of what they're doing, or why. I'm not quite sure I understand the reasoning behind taking thousands of dollars of beautiful Marshall amps and assorted guitars, and making music that sounds likes a large hemi about ready to blow. There's a difference between heavy metal mayhem, a la Motorhead, and a bunch of damn noise. If I can have a good time listening to "Killed by Death," by Lemmy and the boys, I don't think I'm necessarily behaving like a jaded old fart. I'm also not too hip on music that espouses the virtues of violence or sexual wilding against women. I'm not making a bunch of excuses here. Rock 'n Roll always has been, and always will be about girls in spandex pants, but there's a difference between going, "Woo-hoo! Baby!," and "Tie her to the post, whip here till she bleeds!" Oh well, I'm finished. Long live Rock 'n Roll. I think I want everyone to play the Ramones and Joan Jett at my funeral. Oh, and almost forgot. Happy New Year! ------------------ Mk10 Maj=225th= IP: Logged |

as a 16 year old, methinks trance, electronica, et all sucks. i love most rock, radiohead, queen, led zepplin, black sabbath. and i'm starting to listen to dick dale. but with no money, i find napster quite useful. any money i do get i blow it on radiohead stuff. also i hate these mtv bands, blink 182 and shite like slipnot, they're as 'commercial' as britney spears. anyone else think that craig david should not have been on jools' annual hootenanny last night. Gosh, thought all young folk were listening to that 'other' stuff. I haven't followed music a lot for the last 25 years or so; my list of 'favorites' would be miles long, and I occasionally hear something pretty good when my son is listening to stuff. The 2 biggest music influences in my life were the Beatles, and a instrumental group called the Ventures. I have always vacillated between rock n roll and country ( not a lot of difference today ), but to indicate my range of taste as a former 'paid' ( notice I didn't say 'professional', hehe ) musician, some of my other influences include Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, Alvin Lee and Ten Years After, Stray Cats....so much more...and my latest favorite, Charlotte Church. Classical, opera, 14 years old from Wales, and a voice that is as much a instrument as any manufactured one. One nice thing about today's music is that the female performers are very nice to look at...:-) Most of them, anyway...hehe. ------------------ nealg=FC= IP: Logged |

Well darth, good lad!But don't get on Blink 182's case too much. They just happened to hit it BIG with "All The Small Things." Most of their stuff is not so "commerical," but as a lover of "good 'ol rock 'n roll," you'll have to admit the sound and the chord structure are pretty classic. To me they're kind of like an updated Ramones. That's why I also like Fountains of Wayne, and Weezer. They understand that they're there to have fun and rock, and that every good song doesn't have to have some big emotional meaning to it. Plus, they have the ability to lampoon themselves constantly, which is an ingredient that a lot of people overlook in rock 'n roll music. In my mind, when you start taking yourself too seriously, you no longer are playing rock and roll. It's stuff like that that makes Iggy Pop so fun to listen to. How can one forget the immortal "I Wanna Be Your Dog"? Another old favorite was Mott The Hoople. Ian Hunter is one cool dude, and nobody could have ever looked cooler in shades, playing a huge "H" guitar. Of course Mick Ralphs playing the other guitar didn't hurt either... ------------------ Mk10 Maj=225th= IP: Logged |

LOL!I've sort of "come full circle"... As a young child I was forced to listen to my mothers 50 to 60 era music (obviously growing to like it).. come my pre-teen years listening to my brothers acid-rock and pre-heavy metal (kind'a liked but still swayed to the 50-60)... Teen years, I stumbled upon punk and teckno-pop... interesting stylings to say the least... young adult, fell in love with a country-girl... ... enter today... Still listening to country and enjoying a good 70s 80s rock... Face it... I'm a misfit. IP: Logged |

The old, semi-old rock/alternative bands are the best IMO. I like music that sounds good both live, and recoreded. Nirvana sounded good on both occasions. Blink 182 doesnt sound too good live comparied to recorded, but a few of their songs I like (Man Overboard, All the small things, and another song I cant remember the name of) I also like Oasis, Radiohead (I love Radiohead!) and one song by Primative Radio Gods. My list goes on... Most of the rock/alternative Ive heard lately sounds too... oh whats the word? Commercialized. IP: Logged |

A friend of mine has an email address with the domain "@audiophile..." and I think that's quite appropriate. I, for one, love all kinds of music. I like classical, I like 40s/50s music, I like blues, jazz, rock, and yes I like electronica. There's no rule that says you're "wrong" if you like a particular kind of music, I think that its good to have broad musical horizons, and to respect the choices of music of others.Try as I might however, country, power-pop, this new brand of "guys suck" hip hop and opera just don't do it for me. Anything else is good though. Cheers, Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

depends on what it is. i like miller and guinness. a few months ago, myself and a few friends went camping in a forest, we got totally pissed and i got mild hypothermia. funny. your right mk10 music isn't meant to be totally serious. may be i should have used other words than commercial, after all, every band is in to make money, it's their job after all. actually their are some good electronica things, oh yeah anyone got kid a. i love it. even though some is electronic, live it's a different story, except for idioteque, it's shite live.this is all my opinion, arguements etc are welcome..
