Wouldn't it be cool if the new RC Sim would ship with a free copy of Fighter Squadron inside. That would give much needed exposure to a great and growing sim.

Glowing Rabbits?!

There are more rabbits like the explosive one near one of the buildings on the field and a weird glowing lake. Take off and fly 150 degrees at full speed. Try flying over the lake

This is fun

Talk about STOL - full throttle and yank the stick back - lol

How much would a real RC aircraft and contol thingy cost like the one in the demo?

Yeah! In a 3 minute period it was just downloaded 25 times. I put a post on the UK R/C usenet group, so hopefully that helped. Someone else posted info about it on the main R/C usenet group.

btw, I just did 25 "limbo's" in the 2 minute limit. This thing is fun!

If anyone can mirror this puppy, I would appreciate it.

You may have noticed that this site was damn slow or impossible to access today and the reason is the demo!

I've had to take it off just so our network will respond again!

If you can mirror or know someone who can mirror the file, please let me know and I'll update our site.

Ack! I figured it was too much of a coincidence that this site was timing out.

Well, you have to admit, it's one of the better problems to have (too much interest).

Played with the rcsimulator demo today (DL'd it from demonews.com). Must say it's pretty fun! I bet a transmitter-type controller would make it even better. Any idea what those things cost?

Didn't notice any outstanding problems while playing with the demo. I ran it for about 2 hours tonight. Only once did I notice a graphics problem (cloud flashing), but after restarting, I couldn't replicate it. I did notice some flashing textures on the aircraft occasionally (in the pop-up window only). I also noticed happy airfoil during one speed crash.

Is the craft supposed to come apart during a high-speed dive (while still in the air)? I could only make it shudder violently, each time the wings held.

For the hell of it I tried going for max altitude, but, forgetting about the time limit, I was only able to make it to about 4k.

I love the way the interface shows the directional information of the craft superimposed when it's too far away to see the aircraft's wings. A few times, I cut the engine during maneuvers just to see if I could glide the thing in successfully. What fun! Can't wait to see how the actual gliders perform!

All in all, I'd have to say that, so far, the flights feel/look very realistic. Gives me flashbacks...

Michael,

To heck with only mirroring, I have a hobby shop that would like to put a demo on their in store PC and have Demo disks to hand out. Provided they can sell it through their store. Blank CD-R's are 20 cents a pop now. put a simple label saying RC Sim Demo and a sleeve on it. Cost to produce- <30 cents a piece.

The only RC sim they carry in their store includes a transmitter and is $379- YIKES!.

While I was getting some paint for a Hellcat I'm building (the plastic non-flyable kind), two people came in that had cracked up their new Christmas present because- and Pete can tell you this is REALLY common for beginners), when the plane turned towards them they got totally confused between left & right. They heard me talking to the store manager about RC Simulator and wanted to know where they could get it (dollar signs started to pop up in the manager's eye's )

I wrote down the URL's for them so they could get the demo. One was a kid who'd cracked up his new glider. You should have heard him pestering his Mom about "when can we download it?" as they walked out the door.

I could apparently teach you guys a thing or two about grass roots marketing. I was responsible for slightly over $40,000 of sales for my local Amiga dealer in '90-'91, and I was just a customer. As a Real3D user, I did a couple of user group presentations to local 3D groups, and interviewed on a radio show. They sold more copies in that area than any other part of the US. Nothing sells like enthusiasm. They asked me to do several computer shows for them, but there's a big difference between 1-2 hours a month for 3-4 months having fun and pounding the streets full time, so I said no.

You guys have a VERY loyal user base that would do almost anything to help you get some money in; provided they know it'll result in a new version or upgrade to Fighter Squadron. Tap into it correctly, and sales will jump quicker than you thought possible.

Here's a quick example- say a user requests 50 demo disks from you with contact info so the store can carry the sim. He drops them off at two or three stores and gives you the store name and business #. You confirm this and the fact the demos are on display- send him a copy of RC sim.

Pete- e-mail me and I can give you an idea how to utilize your contacts.

Why would I do this? Hmmm, maybe because I WANT A NEW VERSION OF FS TOO!

Nothing would make this simmer happier than to see Inertia make a ton of money and happy customers with their RC Simulator.
Whether or not SDOE gets updated--I've just had so much fun with A10 Attack, A10 Cuba and SDOE that it would do my heart good to see these guys succeed beyond their wildest dreams.
Good luck MH, Mighty ,and Inertia.

MH, Mighty,

Demo looks and runs great. I like the 'far away' transparent aircraft image instead of the diamond that was originally in there. It makes it a lot easier to see where you are going.

Smooth frame rates at 1600 x 1200. Sweet.

Thanks Michael. I just got off the phone with Verizon (DSL provider here) and they told me some sites are doing maintenance due to the new year. My site is one of them. Hopefully I'll get my page up within the next few hours, then I'll email you. (that's down too right now)
