Well, some of you may know that I collect militaria items... Such as uniforms, field gear and personal items. I mainly collect things from the WW2 era but also have quite a few WWI and Vietnam pieces as well. Today, one of my Christmas presents was an inlisted mans WW2 Aircorps dress uniform. (I thank my dad for that) It has the mans full name in it and I THINK the serial number along with the date it was tailored... (Dec 19, 1940) I was wondering is there anyway for me to track the owner of this uniform down? I would like to know what he exactly did in WW2. His name was John M. Marcheski and his serial number I believe is 32192015. Hes got two stipes on his sleve and the uniform is in VERY excellent condition. Its missing the collar insignias (Which I can find and put on myself...) but is has the metal hooks in the back for the Browne belt. (Which is a VERY hard thing to come by if you have any idea what Im talking about)Anyway, I was wondering if any of you guys knew how to track down personel from 50 years ago and I also wanted to know if any of you guys collect this stuff for a hobby. (Its one thing to fly a WW2 simulator, but if you dont know the history of the men who flew, worked, what they wore, how they lived and their stories... you are missing out on alot) IP: Logged |

This might be a start: http://www.nara.gov/regional/mpr.html Last I knew the main records place was in St. Louis. There was a fire in the 1960s that destroyed a lot of records. Good luck in your research. IP: Logged |

Keep your collection secure. I had a WWI german leather flying helmet with the original goggles. They were given to me by a guy that fought for the germans in WWI and was a tailgunner on a B-17 in WWII.It was stolen by a kid in our neighborhood who sold it. I never got it back ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

Oh dont you worry. My many hundreds of dollars collection is protected by a home security system and a locked closet. Not to mention I live in a pretty good neighborhood. My dad has MUCH MUCH more than I do... Most of his collection is WWI uniforms in either very good or excellent condition. He also has MANY WWI doughboy helmets and fieldgear (He has sets too where he would get the whole persons war possesions consisting of the field uniform, his field gear and his papers. VERY hard to find stuff like that today.) and MANY German WWI cammo painted helmets. He also collects vietnam Tiger Stripes and Vietnam field gear. Hes just now getting into WWII collecting. (Hes got a REAL and new WWII bombers flak helmet and a brand spanking new WWII late war helmet with the netting! he also has parashooters boots and jackets) But when he goes on trips with the 6th Calvary (A reinactment/rememborance group he and I are a member of...) he still has to borrow my field gear. But he has an excellent dress uniform put together with the Ike jacket and pink pants. He also has a uniform put together consisting of the earlier model jacket and the brown pants. It looks VERY nice! He has historically accurate places ribbins and patches on it too. Hes even got the WWII tie and dress shoes! LoL half of our house is like a war meausem.
