I decided to build my new 1 GHz T-Bird PC with the ATi AIW 32 mb Radeon card, and I am very glad that I did. SDOE plays wonderfully on this card. I set up a quick mission of 9 Forts vs 9 190 and watched the action externally. Got about 40-50 FPS at 1024 without anti-aliasing. In the Rhineland protect the wounded bomber mission the external frame rate is 60-70 FPS at 1024 without AA. Use of AA drops the frame rates by about 20 fps. Its brand new game to me since I only mustered 3-8 fps on my old machine with 1 Fort and 2 190's. I never saw any mission exceed 14 fps on my old machine.

Hey Robert, now that is cool, and I know exactly what you mean about FPR, in most missions I'm lucky to get above 20fps on my 196mb AMDK6-2 533mhz with V3... I just love the building now, but I know that you're feeling just like I did when I first played on the new 22" monitor I got, it just feels like a brand new game, good going Robert!

Hey Robert- Post a screen shot or send me one, I've been curious about how good/bad the Radeon boards look.

robert s, send those screen shots to me. I'll upload them and post them here for ya. If you know how to convert them to jpeg, that would be better, as they wont take so long for you to upload to me and for me to download... but if you dont I can either tell you, or convert them myself.

If you want to post them, you need a on-line site to post from like Tripod. There are others, but I forgot which ones allow picture posting. Tripod I know for sure allows it.

Accounting for the graininess added by the compression, looks as good as my TNT2

Robert- why such a low framrate on the 190?

The 190 is from a mission containing 6 forts, 18 p51d, and 24 fw190 at 640x480 resolution with clouds in DX6 under v 1.5 of SDOE. I have since upgraded to DX7a and the frame rate action in this mission has become more odd. I have seen frame rates drop into single digits with lots of sounds and in an external view before engagement I observed a frame rate oscillation from the high teens to low 40's in a matter of seconds. I suspect the texture cache setting may have a significant role in helping stablize frame rate, but I am unsure how to change it. From ini file description the default is 10485760 which seems like a byte formula for the setting. Can I simply change texture cache number to 90000000 or does it have be a special number for SDOE to recognize a change from the default value?
