With all of the speculation going on, I'd like to point out 2 things.

Voodoo boards were superior because of GLide. Nvidia chips can run GLide. Remeber when Creative was working on creating a translator for GLide to use with their TNT & TNT2 boards. I tried it, and for a beta it worked suprisingly well. The only reason they used a translator was to avoid copyright infringement. Creative stated the Nvidia chips could run GLide directly with some tweaking of the code.

One of the assets purchased by Nvidia is Glide.

If you're looking at a new video card, I wouldn't buy a Voodoo. After the purchase is complete 3dfx will be going into a "spin down" as I saw it on one comment. This will involve the process of closing down the 3dfx company.

Well Im going to go out and buy a V5 5000 before I cant find them anymore! I'll probably do that today... I'll also go find all driver versions on-line real quick too and download them. Ive wanted a V5 5000 for some time, and now Id better go out and get it! No telling when Im going to see another good Glide card....

Voodoos weren't superior because of Glide. They were simply very fast chips. For example, most Quake-based games use OpenGL, not Glide. Games that used Glide used to look better on Glide than they did on D3D because Glide came out first and developers had more experience with it. It took awhile before they built up similar experience with D3D.

Although SDOE is very fast with my Annihilator Ultra it looked much better with my Voodoo Sli setup.

I get very strange wiggly terrain and odd clouds with the ultra and so far have not been able to tweek them out.

I am tempted to put my old Voodoo Sli rig back in just for SDOE, it should work along side my Ultra as I used to use it along side a TNT.

Guys, don't mention Glide. The sooner everyone quits talking about it, the sooner it will just be a distant memory.

I think as long as we play SDOE, Glide will be talked about....unless a future patch makes SDOE look and run as well in D3D. Kind of like playing old DOS games.

Spanky here...

Danw, What about all those old Glide only games?

Ya know the one where your redering options were 3dfx or software?

You can't stop talking about glide if you still like to fire up the old classics once in a while.

Thats why I never buy a non voodoo card. That and glide and SDOE rock.
