I love this show!! I only picked it up part way through the series though! Does anyone know if its going into reruns??

From what I can tell, with one final round, two semi rounds, that means four preliminary rounds for a total of seven episodes. I've seen both semis, and the windmill-coffee-grinder (techno teachers vs manic mechanics). What other episodes are there?

I can't wait until next wednesday! Who do you think will win, the N.E.R.D.S., or the Brothers-in-arms? (my money's on the nerds)

Werner

This show rocks!

It seems the dudes with less background seem to win over the "professionals" I liked the one where they had to build a craft that could go on land and water the best. I also liked the cannon one too!

yah the amphbious vehicals kicked ass, cept that the team with the fan was a complete disaster. also the cannon episode was my other favorite. Tho i think those epiosodes were from the last season, which i had never seen before.

next week theres gonna be dragsters and fireboats should be cool.

If you are seeing the UK series, I know who wins....we are a few months ahead!

There is a new series being screened in the UK next year, so you should get that too.

Junkyard Wars is the US version of the UK original, Scrapheap Challenge. We just had a US winners V UK Winners challenge, so we got to see lots of clips from the US show! They used the asme challenges, but boy, the approaches were different! The US got bigger engines.....

Even my 4 year old son is addicted to the show! He won't miss an episode!

Still to come for Werner, I think, fireboats ( Nerds v Brothers) and the Final...Drag racing! The drag racing is a classic of finesse v muscle.

Werner, too bad you missed the Thanksgiving marathon - 9 hours of episodes. My personal favorite was the demolition machine contest - each team needed to build a machine which could knock down three disused buildings. The cannon, amphibious vehicle and drag racers were good too... the airplane one was a bit contrived, but it had me in the most suspense, as I couldn't believe these people actually got towed into the air in those contraptions. I can't imagine that being done in the U.S., the liability insurance would cost more than the moon landings did!

Out of the ones I've seen I loved the Cannon show, and the glider show, where the teams built hang gliders. The one guy was VERY brave to fly in that thing!

The Cannon episode was awesome too though. One team had many problems with their entire barrel blasting off it's mount, but the other team kicked ass and hit the target twice. Very very fun to see

What I find amazing is how close a lot of the shows are. They end up with two approaches that look completely different and they end up within about 20% of each other.

There was a tractor-pull tug-of-war last season that was really good. It was best out of three. In each of the first two heats one side and then the other had a mechanical failure. In the final heat they ran for at least 30 seconds and were exactly matched. No motion either direction. Finally, one broke down, again.

Here's a FAQ written by the NERDs. Pretty interesting. It turns out the show does plant some stuff that one probably wouldn't find in the junkyard. http://www.the-nerds.org/scrapfaq.htm

In the first show the NERDs were in I was thinking they had too many chiefs and they didn't work well as a team. They did much better in the second.

Well right now I think what we're seeing over here is the footage of Scrapheap Challenge with the Junkyard Wars intro slapped on at either end of the show. Frankly I don't think anyone could top those two British hosts, but then again I have a weakness for the accent.

Last night I went to the Scrapheap Challenge website and... cheated! I read the synopsises (synopsi?) of nearly all of this year's episodes. They're written well enough that I can manage to survive until the reruns hit. lol

I was talking with a friend of mine today, who it turns out is also a huge fan, and we both agreed we like it because its all about people being creative and building stuff, and the competitions are always in good spirit. Now THAT'S quality television. Enough with this Jerry Springer-esque crap. Imo Scrapheap Challenge/Junkyard Wars is proof that shows on tv can be awesome, and still 100% clean.

In the show they did about making a bomber the planting of objects became overly obvious. They "found" a brand new 26 inch prop. They then "found" a motor with the correct shaft size. Later they broke the prop and another magically appeared.

Even with all the help it is still one of the best shows on television.
