The P-38 never had a gunsight because the guns were nose mounted and therefore it was un-necessary. Well at least this is how the developers of B-17 responded when the omission of the gunsight reticule was pointed out to them. The whole reason for a reflector gunsight was to eliminate parallax induced errors. In other words to force the pilot to keep his head in the same position every time he fired his guns - let alone help in deflection shots. Now I can't provide any evidence at this moment that the P-38 pilots actually turned on their gunsights, but if they did not, why have them mounted in the cockpit? In the event of a crash landing the pilot risked having his face caved in by the gunsight (hence the padding) and why restrict your view with a useless lump of metal. I'm sorry if I am wrong on this but it sounds the biggest load of bollocks I have heard in years. No wait, I think I shall start a petition for the removal of the useless gunsights in SDOE from the Bf109F-4, G-6, K-4, Me262, Bf110, Yak3, Ju88A-4, G-7, Mosquito mkVI etc............... Anybody have any document evidence or pictures of P-38's gunsights? ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

I have TONS of pictures, photographs, and diagrams of the P-38 with its gunsites. I'll scan some and post them here. Then you can take them and show the f**king stupid programers of B-17II the error of their ways. That is a bunch of B.S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!! That just makes me pissed. How f**king stupid do they think the sim community is? IP: Logged |

Well...I have to agree to some extent. Even if they didn't "use" the rectical. They should have at least allowed the player to make that decision ... Like the actual WWII pilots did. (With proper community pressure I would imagine one could have this "added") IP: Logged |

And Zur, by 'proper community pressure,' I reckon you mean barging into Waywards design studio with a shotgun, saying "Listen to me, you pranks! You add a gunsight to the P-38, or I will utilise this shothun in a way which I assume you will not like. And I don't need no friggin gunsight to aim, like you bloody well ought to know all WWII pilots did!!!!"That'll move their asses IP: Logged |

Why can't developers be HONEST!I could cope better with 'Sorry we forgot' or 'due to technical difficulties, the models got lost, or 'the cheque is in the post...... But to assume that the people who question that sort of detail do not have a clue is a little insulting. Anyone likely to believe that answer would never have questioned the absence of a gunsight in the first place! Oh well....says a lot for their attitude towards customers.... IP: Logged |

Latest word from Iain Howe from Wayward:"Guys, I've been doing some digging around on the P-38 gunsight - an issue that some of you have raised. It seems that there's been some confusion over exactly what equipment the P-38 should have been shipped with. Our P-38 in the game DOESN'T come equipped with the K-14 gyroscopic gunsight that the other Allied Fighters have fitted. Instead it has an L-3 (LYNN) gunsight - which should have a projected, but stationary, reticule consisting of a yellow dot in a yellow circle. It seems that the texture representing the reticle vanished at some point and, there being over 2.5Mb of textures per aircraft, this wasn't noticed until your queries caused us to look into the matter specifically. My earlier postings on this matter were caused by a confusion over the gunsight controls (which aren't supposed to be there) and reticule (which is) - my mistake, for which I apologise! Iain"
Give their due, at least if you shout loud enough they listen
