Illegal ops here, too, Spanky. I got it ok, and it installed fine, but when I try to load a mission, get a illegal op, invalid page fault....a .dll file with 3D in the title. I don'tna like the sounds o' that.

The new demo worked for me, I'm using dx8 and the new 7.x detonator drivers for geforce if that helps.

The geforce might help...go ahead and send it over to me. It is my TNT card it doesn't like, I have discovered. Ok, TNT is old, but it should work...and the drivers are the latest for the card ( not reference drivers, though Diamond put quite a bit of the Nvidia tweaks into this set ). The demo tries to load the mission with my Voodoo2 card, but only part of the screen gets loaded...likely, the 12 mb isn't quite enough. But strangely, the D3D works better with the Voodoo2 than with the TNT...the TNT just engenders the Invalid Page Fault in LIB3D.dll, a file in the demo folder itself.

Grrrr...I am not yet able to afford the GeForce 2 MX I was hoping to get. Ah, well, it probably wouldn't work anyway.

You guys may need a GeForce for this one. I have the GeForce2 by Hercules and it works fine.

Runs- Graphics Suck, except for the exterior view of the plane your flying.

Major banding of colors in the sky, ground colors look like something out of a cartoon, another lousy prop texture (they should'a hired Tail). This was with the game running in 1024X768 in Direct3D with trilinear filtering on.

Sound is so-so, but most games are without a meatwater soundpack, I could go on, but unless they can fix the graphics (maybe a bug in the demo?), I've scratched it off my list.

Hmmm..I have heard that about the sounds, also...yet, Meatwater DID the sounds. It must have something to do with the way the program handles it. Sure wish I could get it to run, but it only likes GeForce cards so far...even graphics probs with TNT2's. I can load the mission with my Voodoo2, but get only the blue sky and the info line/boxes, and sound ( I kinda liked the sounds..). But, the demo is a bust for me so far, and this was the sim I was really looking forward to. Teach me to hope.

Yeah, I have to turn graphics down pretty far with this 'ol Celery 500.

Hey, is there a way to get a 45 degree view up, like the 8+5 numpad view in SDOE?

I really wanted to like this one...

I didn't notice any changes between this and the alpha version of the demo I DLd a couple months ago. They both suck and It reminds me too much of EAW.

I like the touches of realism, but the graphics suck. Under full realism, even when being light on the stick, the buffeting made flying overly difficult. The cockpit shaking and stuttering graphics, especially when close to the ground, made the game unplayable at times.

While shooting down a bomber, my wingtip touched the wingtip of another and I instantly exploded. I quickly lost my interest past that.

After a while, I tried one last time, thinking maybe I was missing something, when the game locked on me. I looked at the readme for some hints about improving game performance, but found only a summary of keyboard commands. It came off the drive after that.

Neal, like Gustang just said... I completely agree. Don't worry about this one, you aren't missing anything.

I think the game holds great promise. The GFX and ground breaking and the sound sucks pretty bad.

But there's a ton of stuff to shoot at. I haven't got a chance to really put it through it's paces, but it seems to be OK to me. Reminds me alot of EAW..which as good thing.

It stutters pretty bad on my 700/geforce though.

Ok, thanks to Doug Helmer at Combatsim - who actually ANSWERS a question even if not directed at him - I got it working. Now, ok, the demo bites, I agree there. But I like the sounds..like, Hell, I love them, and they are only samples. I find the graphics perfectly acceptable to me - that, IMO, is a matter of personal taste. What I DON'T like is BUGS!!! Having to ask around about how to get the damn thing running and not getting a answer from people who are beta testing for Rowan is terrible; now that I have it running, I get the CD in Drive error after the mission, and NO ONE has a answer to that. Empire? Forget it...Rowan? No reply.

I too get 'stuttering' and what appear to be lousy frame rates, especially when terrain comes into view...there are other things I don't like, also. Views is one...not that they are bad, but that they take too long to learn...that was one of the things about MigAlley I disliked. Another is that the only flyable Demo mission is a combat one - a quick free flight to learn some of the keys and commands would have been nice, and to experience learning what the FM can and cannot do. I could do that from the combat mission, but if I crash or get shot down - highly likely in combat if you are fumbling around looking for things - it is pretty frustrating to exit the mission and have to CTD because you don't have the damn CD in the drive because THERE IS NO CD - IT'S A DEMO!!

But...*sigh*...it is indeed a demo, and there is definite sign that a excellent sim may be on it's way. One question I do have is - if they are going to release a demo, why is there no place at Empire's or Rowan's site for feedback? That alone is what scares me about the final release...and I guess I will have to buy it to find out.

Good old Caveat Emptor.

I had a nasty surprise ejecting last time.. the pilot's chute didn't open. He let out a blood curdling scream and starting scrabbling at the air.

I managed to get my graphics smoothed out by turning off the raised trees, ground shadows, and reflections, set the texture detail to medium.

I find the guns on the spitfires very ineffective.. it takes my whole ammo load to bring down one bomber and sometimes that doesnt even do it. Maybe i just need more practice.

I noticed when you knock out an engine on a bomber it doesnt fall out of formation I hope they fix this in the released version.

If the dynamic campaign is very good this could be a great game, hard to tell from the demo.

Spanky here...

Do you guys remember when demo ment.

Demostration of what the game was like?

Not a beta test. Not a public beta.

But a representation or small snipit of what could be exspected from the final game?

Thats what a demo is.

This (if there is to be any improvements to the game) IS NOT a demo. It is a beta test or something of that nature.

If this is a demo, there is no way I would buy the finished product.

I really think companies should start calling these things what they are.

A demo usually comes out AFTER the game comes out to get all the people who didn't buy the game right away. To give them a taste of the action and hook them. Like the first level to an adventure game.

Some where some how this industry got lost and started handing out alpha and betas and don't even provide as pointed out a place to respond with bug reports.

Silly people. When will they learn.

Handing out garbage and calling it a demo (in my mind a representation of the finished work) is a HORRIBLE idea.

If they call it a demo I WILL take that as the final game and call it a peice of FUCKING SHIT.

Err...Spanky, they do call it a demo. The game is gold, so it's a fair bet to say this is how the game is gonna be.

With a good campaign it's gonna be a decent sim. Lots of planes flying around in the air. I'd take it over CFS 2 any day.

Funny. The previewer at Gamesdomain says it runs very well on his PII 350, with GFX turned down to about 75%!

Hey Spanky.....

Since when did the Software industry care whether it released Beta' sas demos......they SELL Beta's as finished products!!!!!

How many games come out now without a very rapid need for patching? I'm talking about such wonders as B17II ( CTD's etc) and other games equally guilty of using the paying public as testers.

I haven't bothered to download this game demo yet, since I have seen so many people having real problems getting it to run.

I have to agree, a Demo should be an advert for a game, should be error free, and should make you really want to go out and spend money! If the demo is shoddy...how good will the finished product be?

And to put it all in perspective....

This game will retail for £30 in the UK. I can buy 64Meg of RAM for £35. Which would you buy on the strength of this Demo?
