Which one is best? I am getting one or the other so let me have it.I have CFS2, and will have B17II. And of course SDOE. And soon Silent HunterII. What would be the best all around card? -=BAB=- Gunner IP: Logged |

The new voodoo cards are running the gpu's in parallel. So if there are 4 processors and the card says it has 128 megs you only get 32 megs of usable texture memory. TS IP: Logged |

How much room do you have for extra fans? The GeForce will run cooler than the VoodoBesides, if you go to sharkyextreme or tomshardware, the Geforce is better at higher res than the Voodoo. Last Nvidia's 2D display is crisper than the Voodoo's too. IP: Logged |

Well then, is there a big advantage in the upgrade from a 32mb Gforce? I was leaning toward the Gforce. The damn things are $250. -=BAB=- Gunner IP: Logged |

You're right, this is a big investment. Here's my advice-Read these two reviews at Sharkyextreme. SuperHigh End 3D Card Shootout, covers the Radeon 64MB and GeForce2 GTS 64MB cards http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/articles/super_he_video_shootout_10-00/ The the Hi End Video Card Shootout article which talks about the 32MB Radeons and GeForces and a 64MB Voodoo 5 http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/articles/he_video_shootout_10-00/ I'd click on the graphs and save them so you can do a side by side comparism of speed. There are also other things to consider- T&L support Radeon Yes GeForce Yes Voodoo No Harware DVD playback Radeon Yes GeForce No Voodoo No 32 bit rendering Radeon Yes GeForce Yes Voodoo No Image quality, Full screen anti-aliasing, video out, and a lot of other factors are covered in these reviews. For some reason the sharky website is slow right now, so you may want to check it during off peak hours. If you are primarily playing sims then you really have to consider the Voodoo5 and its FSAA as it blows away the GeForce 2 for most sims on the market.------------------ William Gall http://www.simfiles.com IP: Logged |

Spanky here... If you already have a geforce Then I'm not sure I would bother upgrading vid cards right now. There is so many freaking Gforces out there. Which one do you have and which one are you considering? Are you talking about the gforce 2? Whats the rest of your computer?

I don't know the exact model but I do know it is a Gforce 32mb. Is the extra 32mb worth the cash? The rest: 256m 133ram, 1 gig CPU, 30gig HD. Christmas comming up and I wanted to upgrade if it is worth it. -=BAB=- Gunner IP: Logged |

Er, the V5 does 32-bit. The V3's did not. Also, Onvia has V5 5500's for $177 with free shipping.IP: Logged |

V5's do 32 bit? Then there's a BIG problen with the drivers. The reviews I've seen all say the card wouldn't run when they tried to run a game in 32bitIP: Logged |

Yep, how else did Tom at Tom's Hardware get bench numbers for the V5 for 32-bit . The V3 does not do 32-bit. It does do 22-bit..IP: Logged |

I have a geforce 2 GTS and am very happy with it since I prefer to run games at very hi res 1600x1200 and the hires performance is phenomenal. TS IP: Logged |

I'm in the same boat as Gunner here, but thoroughly confused by the above. I play sdoe (in glide, which I still want to be able to do), Hidden and Dangerous, IL2 (soon), etc. What is the best card for me? Btw, I have a Voodoo Banshee now, so does that mean I'd have to get a new MB to switch to a Geforce?I hate hardware! Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Hello?Guys come on! For $129 at Best Buy the Hercules Prophet II Geforce2 MX KICKS ASS! It runs D3D and OpenGL games GREAT, and also works fantastically for things like 3DS Max 3. The FPS issue is only very slightly less (4-5 fps) than a $400+ dollar Geforce DDR and GTS. It's MASSIVE bang for your buck! Gunner, get what I have, you'll love it and have money left over.

Spanky here... Yep the MX sounds like a good idea gunner, I was considering one. Now that I can't affored a new chip and board i'm considering the MX to hold me over for a while should be quite the upgrade from a banshee. I'll REALLY miss glide support though. SUcks Maybe pick up some extra ram with the money you save over the more expensive geforce2s. more ram is always a good thing it seems. IP: Logged |

For $50 more, he can get a V5 5500. I still am not pleased with nVidia's odd driver quirks - the occasional 1/2 screen image shift or flicker, weekly drivers, and unpredictable game compatability. I have a Asus 7100 MX/2VID running nVidia OEM drivers. My MB doesn't have the juice to supply to the second video out . At least I was smart and snagged a pair of V2's to cover for the weirdness. When it works, the MX looks great in game.IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. I hear ya Whirl but from what i hear the newer voodoos have there own driver quirks too. I personally never upgrade my drivers. It always leads to trouble. I'm still running voodoo banshee reference drivers with my card or the drivers that shipped with it, even though there has been numerous updates to them. I'm thinking of buying an MX this weekend and trying it out for a week. If i'm not impressed I'll just take it back. Staples here has a 10 day full money back no questions return. Why don't you guys take advantage of taht stuff? Buy the MX and the voodoo 4500 if you can free up the cash. then return the one you like less. IP: Logged |
