Yep, Tail. Maybe I should consider 196 while my money are still outside the bank. I've heard some folks that upgraded from 64 to more RAM say that their PC's are like new machines!IP: Logged |

Ugrading to 128 will have the most effect in two areas.1. Multitasking 2. Programs moving large amounts of info such as textures for 3D programs, and large bitmap files. Samsung did a study on memory 5 years ago. One of the comparisms made was if you ran a system with the minimum mamory requirement vs. a system with 2X the minimum memory requirement. The tried these different memory configurations with different speed processors. What they found was that doubling the speed of the processor provided a significantly smaller increase in performance than upgrading a system to 2X the minimum memory requiremnts. The reason for this is much less disk swapping occurs. One more note, increasing the memory to more than 2X the minimum requirements for the application being used provided insignificant performance increases to upgrading the processor (unless your dealing with files exceeding available memory space) Hope this helps. But- pick up some cheap ram cuz the DDR ram and Motherboards are coming out and provide a BIG performance increase. Although the fastest DDR MB supports only up to 133MHZ ram, one of the memory chip mfgs has delivered certified 150 MHZ DDR ram to developers. You'll be able to get a HUGE performance increase by the end of the first quarter for a reasonable investment (i.e. replace the current MB with a DDR MB and DDR ram. In many cases you'll be able to use a current processor. If not, the Duron is a heck of a buy and should break the 1 Gig mark by Q2 of next year). ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

Regarding RAM - prices are pretty low right now, considering. Just paid 80 bucks for a 128 PC100 from Crucial..last night their online order price for same stick was 10 bucks less, and free UPS 2nd Day Air until 1-2-01. So, it looks like for PC 100 right now, it's running approx. 50-75 cents per meg, which is a good price; PC 133 is a bit higher, but still reasonable. Not exactly 'cheap', but worth it for the performance boost. ( I have 256 total right now in my puny PIII 500E ).Crucial is a division of Micron, and is at www.crucial.com ; nice for comparison with pricewatch.

In the UK try www.scan.co.uk I'm about to sell off one of the Children for medical research in order to buy some stuff, and they seem to offer the best deal I can find. Can't afford to waste the money, since I'll only have one child left to trade in for Il2...... IP: Logged |

I bought this game and my pc had 128Mb RAM, it ran very stuttery and the textures where slow to load ( like SDOE but worst ). I've just slapped another 128Mb into the box and gameplay is *alot* smoother, I seriously recommend 256 Mb RAM + Geforce 256 as a minimum for B17II. Shame about the instability of the game CTD's more often the SDOE. Can't wait to play SDOE with my new memory, it will rock! Elric IP: Logged |

"Maybe I should consider 196 while my money are still outside the bank. I've heard some folks that upgraded from 64 to more RAM say that their PC's are like new machines! "Semmern - do it! I just upgraded from 64 to 192 and my PII300 is really like 'a new machine' like you say. No longer any pauses waiting for the hard drive!!!! Extremely happy with it. BTW You should probably be able to find 128Mb PC133 sticks for around $110 in Norway based webshops or at bigger pure resellers I think. Couldn't be that much worse campared to Sweden?
