Well its kinda both. B-17II the game is a must have if you are a bomber freak (Like me) or a graphic freak (Like me) I dont play on-line with flight sims so the lack of multiplayer doesnt bother me a bit. B-17II for SDOE is a revisal/rebuild of the origonal B-17 shipped with this game. IP: Logged |

LOL!I remember spending hours on end playing AOP.. AOE... PAW 1942... and the original B17. I just find it so humorous that "suddenly" becuase a simulation doesn't have online or MP capabilities ... it's relegated to "coaster-ware". I personally believe some of you nay-sayers are creatures of your own propoganda. "Where"/"when" did games become "crap" because they are single-play only? I honestly spend 90% of my computing time off-line doing solo stuff ... Online is an absolute blast and surely will be the "it" thing to do/be ... I just think it's a little premature and unrealistic to default a games as garbage simply because it doesn't have MP. I've had the best times playing with myse ...er "by" myself! IP: Logged |

off course lack of MP is bad, but anyway I hope it will be a great game. But that wayward announces the final release of a game, which had so much hype like B17II with the following topic:Some news ... this made me drolling over the floor regards Bakunin [This message has been edited by bakunin (edited 11-13-2000).] IP: Logged |

For me, Theres nothing that can take the place of flying online with real people since most of the time Artifical idots (AI) never do anything right. This being 2000, i see no reason for a company to do something so stupid as releasing a game with no multiplay. If i want to play a game by myself i'll go play Playstation 2. I don't play Computer games to play by myself.
If a game doesn't have multiplay, then it's only good for "coaster-ware" as zur puts it.
I like that, coaster-ware sounds like the best term when talking about B-17 II.
Mind if i use that from now on?

...Razer,Hey, that's your right to believe anything "not" MP is crap ... That doesn't mean it is! I just cannot imagine anyone passing up B17-II (assuming it's not absolute bug-ware) who enjoys WWII air-combat?! The whole "If it doesn't have MP, I'll not buy it" kind'a sound childish doesn't it? ...Maaco, "Gone Gold" defines the time whem the final build of a program is accepted for duplication/publishing. basicly saying "it's done" IP: Logged |

Well....I won't be buying it!Minimum spec is out of my range, and I don't intend shelling out 1/3 the cost of a new processor for a game that will only run with all the detail switched out! I'll wait for six months and pick it up for half the price once all the bug-fixes have been released! By then, I should have a PC that can run it full on!!!! IP: Logged |

Spanky here... If your going to buy it at least wait until some reviews are out. It wouldn't suprise any of us i'm sure if it was full of bugs. And I don't want to listen to the bitching about them. Zur, I ONLY play SDOE online. ONLY. 100% besides testing something i'm working on or my set up after changing something. 100% online. Thats it. I would buy it and play the offline game but the whole time I would be looking at it as practise for online play. And that would be disapointing. Its cool cause i'm having too much fun playing panzer elite right now. I'm trying to find people to play it with online right now. Go figure. Oh yeah Razer just wait till B17-2 comes out on PS2, then we can play it online.

Why the pesimizm? If your 100% online... why would one even bother "thinking" about B17-II at this point? The point I'm making is "why" consider it garbage purely based on the fact that it's not MP? Face it... The simulation genre is fighting for survival. If sims are to survive, it only makes common sense to support it by purchasing "quality" siulations... (Yes, I'm assuming B17-II is high-quality"... bit me) B17-II has a lot to offer purely from a technological stand-point. not to mention the RPG/sim cross-over with crew and command managment. It just floors me how one can condemn a simulation purely on the lack of MP. You guys have been spoiled to a degree... Online is awesome, bu there is more to gaming than just online. (Maybe I'm showing my age... I still prefer solo gaming)... IP: Logged |

hey look at deus ex, possibly one of the best single player games ive ever played, theres no multiplayer for it and the game wasn't downgraded at all because of it. As long as the single player aspect of B-172 is exciting and immersive ill forget all about multiplayer.IP: Logged |

I play online sometimes, and offline sometimes. When it comes to AI vs human players however, there's no comparison, thus without MP the value inherent in the game diminishes from the perspective of an online gamer. Sure, I'll buy B17ii. B17ii w/MP is worth the 59.99 cdn rack price, B17ii w/out MP is worth 14.99 cdn bargain bin price.See you in six months! Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Zur,My problem is I have a stack of single-player games that have priority at the moment. You know as well as I do that it's hard to shake the online addiction once the ball is rolling. After flying against humans, you lose your taste for robots quickly, and let's face it, they'll always be a long way off. On the subject of supporting 'quality' simulations. I partially agree, but you can't be selective about who you're supporting. Where I'd like to support Wayward, I don't feel right casting my dollar vote for Hasbro. It's not condemnation, it's just a poor feature set that degrades the value of such a beautiful sim. I'm with Werner. I'm don't feel I'm missing anything by waiting for this one. Oh, one more thing... My wife thinks I'm the biggest geek because she hears me laughing when I'm online with SDOE, of course she has no idea why I'm laughing (well, she's know _why_ I'm laughing- but she doesn't pay attention to the source). I don't find myself doing that very often in single-play games. Anyway, for all of us that were looking forward to making B17-II a social event of the new year, well, we're a little jaded about that little 'oopsie'. If it was anyone else but Hasbro the sim killer, it would be a easier decision. I got burnt by Falcon and Gunship! {hey the previews where good}and to run out on release day to by this one is hard to do. But if it shows to be of quality, a show support or lack of,would surely be noted by other developers. Bombs away! IP: Logged |

Alright..alright... I concead (to bad Gore can't) I love MP!... I just honestly find myself playing more offline than I do "on". (could be the majority of FS friends I have are on the west coast, hence I'm in slumber land when ya'll in full-swing) I just think it's short sighted to discount a sim "just" because it lacks MP. I've seen several mag reviews of on game or another where the review is gold until they condemn it for lack of MP ... WTF decided that being MP'less was such a criminal offense? Peace my fellow sim brothers! IP: Logged |

Actually, the lack of MP did disappoint me, but for me, the true test is how it plays out of the box. I will likely get it - I am still enjoying CFS2 'stock', no user add ons, and find the AI very challenging - and if it proves to be as good as Wayward wanted it to be, then I will deplore the lack of MP and the inability to enjoy it with friends and squad mates online. But like many others here, I play many games offline only - SDOE is the only online game I have continued with. And that is because of the quality of the community and the talent of all the pilots online...if B17II is truly a great sim, it will sadden me that I cannot fly it online with/against the great folks here. But it won;t stop me from enjoying it offline!

Zur.Whoa, you OK? Someone call an ambulance!!! ...It's not like you to drop this so quickly. ;P I think it's become clear that big publishers don't want us, nor do we want them. Although, I've had hope in 'non-mainstream' gaming restored after what I've seen in done with 'Combat Mission'. That's kinda the equivalent of your favorite team winning the playoffs, and I think that's where we're going to see the really good PC games come from in the future. No point cryin' over the ball that Hasbro dropped... nothing a few ritual sacrifices and voodoo dolls can't handle. IP: Logged |

Going Gold- a term that I think Microsoft Reinterpreted It means the product is ready for release.see from a marketing perspective they can say a product has gone gold and to the 90% of the consumer market- it means what it's always meant in the past- somethings sold a million copies. So . . . those that don't understand the term will run out and buy it thinking it's a hot product. This was probably something some marketing geek came up with since Microsoft had some flops and Uncle Bill can't stand the idea of MS having a loser in any arena. He wouldn't like me. All of my machines are dual boot- Windows or Linux Mandrake. I've moved all of my productivity software over to Linux and Windows is now used as a gaming OS. If the X-box is as good as tomshardware.com said, I can then get rid of the windowsw partitions when the PC games are ported to it (something VERY easy for programmers to do) ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

"Going gold" probably has several origins. I first heard the term when CD-ROMs became popular. That implies that burning the disk to be sent to manufacturing, which was gold colored, is where the term came from.IP: Logged |

Spanky here...Stephen- Don't read too much into the previews. How often have you guys ever read a preview that said. "this game sucks ass, large" "don't bother even trying this one cause we can tell it sucks right now" The game journalists almost never say how bad the game actually is even in the reviews. With a really good game they might say one or 2 bad points but always for some reason forget the other 5. No game is perfect. But for the reveiwers it seems that alot in fact are. PREviews are even worse for that. It seems they only want to mention the good stuff cause they think(HOPE?) that all the bad stuff will be fixed in final release. Problem is most of the time the beta they get to preveiw from is really the full version and just needs the movies and some credits slapped on. Alot of the preview/beta copies I have tried have been like this. I never give the benefit of the doubt anymore, these people are in the business of getting your money, they have no interest in your satisfaction most of the time. B17II is having some problems and it looks like the same path that Crimson Skies took. Both of these worked fine in beta but the gold misbehaved. The good part here is that the development team is on the main site trying to find answers to the problems. ------------------ Hawk Forum manager and bar keep http://rcwarbirds.com/ IP: Logged |
