Rather than remain in ignorance I'm seeking to understand, so excuse a stupid question from a country where we had our thanksgiving back in October... I heard this is bigger than Christmas in the US?? How come? I also heard it's being really big and all that had to do with pilgrims way back when barely surviving the year, and entire communities being wiped out and stuff (Roanoke?).

Thanks!

Werner

Thanksgiving in the U.S. is not AS big as Christmas, but its still pretty big. The day after Thanksgiving in the U.S. is the BIGGEST shopping day of the year. (Because of Christmas) Thanksgiving is a holiday to just be thankfull. And if your not thankfull well then youd better get thankfull about something pretty damned fast! Yes it has alot to do with Pilgrims and also Indians (Native Americans as they like to be called today) You see its supposed that the Indians (Native Americans) helped out the first Pilgrims by showing them how to grow food to survive. Thus at the end of the harvest they had a big feast to show their thanks to the Indians (Native Americans) Hence Thanksgiving! At least thats what I was told.

Sounds like they still teach the good stuff in Texas. What happened to GW's failed education program?

Hehehehe Jerry! Are you poking fun at the Texas educational system agian? God thats something Im NOT thankfull for. I was taught that lil story both by the educational system and by my parents.

Oh BTW, happy Thanksgiving all! My relatives are comming over tomorrow so I had one heck of a day cleaning the house. But its all good. We're having the traditional turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy, sweet potatoes, rolls, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, corn, shells and cheese and a TON of other food items I cant remember off of the top of my head at this particular moment in time... Oh yeah a honey baked ham too! A feast!

Isn't it funny how only one or two of your items are actually "traditional"? The turkey was not actually eaten back then-- in fact it is more likely that seafood was the mainstay-- could you imagine thawing out the traditional Thanksgiving lobster? Potatoes were also uncommon at that time--- really only pumpkin pie, corn, and maybe cranberries were eaten then. Not how the hell did I turn into the Cliff Claven of Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving started when the first Martian ship landed in 1655. The kindly Martians brought with them the "turkiebird" that we call today the turkey. This bird was really ugly! We took the bird and ate it because we were awfully hungry and it looked very good at the time. Unfortunatly it was not meant to be eaten but was the Martian ambasador!

Today we are thankfull that the Martians did not kill us all, just most of us.

Seafood? I dont know Jeeves... wouldnt you think the Pilgrims were most likely to go out and shoot a bird before they got in the cold water and did dive fishing?

ROTFLMAO Hawk!!

Argon...great job of explaining it.

I too would like to wish all of you, including those outside the USA, a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hey, if we can celebrate, why not you, also?

Among the many things I list to myself today to be thankful for, one of them is SDOE and the community of which I am a small part, and the fortunate chain of circumstances that led me to this point. From the plane designers to the skinners to the mission makers to the object and terrain designers to the 'just pilots' like myself....to all of you, Thanks for being out there.

And I don't mean to leave out MH, Mighty, and the rest of the Parsoft crew for making it possible in the first place - and, yes, even Activision for at least making it possible for this sim to see the light of day, and the retailer's shelves.

Of course, that doesn't mean I still wouldn't like to see that there PATCH!!
