After a good seven years of loyal service, my trusty old Thrustmaster PFCS joystick has given up the ghost.I have borrowed a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro. The Force feedback is fun, especially the difference between fireing machine guns and cannons. But....I feel there is far too much play with the joystick. Far too sensitive. I've configured the stick as best I can but to tell you the truth I feel I had far more control with my old Thrustmaster. Or is that years of bias? Serious question for you all to help me decide on a new stick... What sticks do you use? Good/bad points? Are you happy with your choice? Would you change? My christmas pressie will be a new stick of my choosing which will be mostly used for SDOE. I don't intend to replace it for another 7 years, touch wood. A little guidance needed. Are they an SDOE/online standerd stick?.. ..or whats the cream of the crop? Cheers Pogo

I use a Logitech "Wingman Digital Extreme". As well as being fully capable of moving in 360 degrees it's also excellent as it has a twist grip for your rudder if you don't have pedals.. Very precise control. Has 5 programmable buttons plus POV Hat switch, throttle lever and gun trigger. Does me fine.. Karaya 2 =FC= ------------------ IP: Logged |

I have MS Precision Pro and MS Forcefeedback 2. Both work for me. The Precision Pro has the advantage of 16 programmable functions plus hat switch, throttle and rudder (twist stick). The forcefeedback 2 has only 8 buttons and hat (they removed the shift key in this version).I like the feedback but find SDOE doesn't use it as extensively as Jane's WWII fighters. IN WWII Fighters as you pull more G's the feedback on the stick becomes quite a bit stronger, whereas in SDOE there seems to be fairly constant pressure.

I use the Saitek X36USB Stick and Throttle and I will never go back. I also own a Precision Pro, FF Pro, and several Logitech sticks but the X36 is just too got to take off my desk. You can read my review here if you want more info. Best $99 you will spend. http://www.3dgw.com/hardware/controller/saitekx36usb/ ------------------ William Gall http://www.simfiles.com IP: Logged |

I just got the Wingman 3d FF and for the price ($60) it works great. Problem with FF is that most game makers don't use it correctly and their games have crumy FF support.Have to move this to "Off Topic" guys. ------------------ Hawk Forum manager and bar keep http://rcwarbirds.com/ IP: Logged |

Great info boys, cheers. A couple of more questions for you.Q) Is Force Feedback only licenced to Microsoft? or can yop get FF on other makes of sticks? I feel that some of the Microsoft sticks can get a bit plastic Q) D0gma, before my Thrustmaster broke I was toying with the idea of a seperate weapon control system with throttle. Are they a lot of movement of the two sticks in the heat of the battle, (Sliding on desktop...?) as you have dedicated both hands to a stick? Good info in your review by the way. Pogo IP: Logged |

I've just ordered a logitech Wingman 3d force feedback joystick so Microsoft are not a monopoly in force feedback, cost me £44 so a lot less than Microsoft as well.IP: Logged |

Me, I'm a Saitek man myself. I have the Saitek Cyborg 3D Digital. It has the 20 programmable buttons, twist-grip handle (for rudder controls), a great throttle & completely reversable for lefties. I even reviewed at my site! The controller totally ROCKS!, I highly recommended it!hip63 [This message has been edited by hip63 (edited 11-27-2000).] IP: Logged |
