Seems to me, if everybody figures an independent doesn't have a chance, they will vote either Republican or Democrat.Also Spanky, ya gotta realize, in this country sometimes people are raised Republican or raised Democrat... it's almost as scary as religion. ------------------ -=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

Spanky here.... For sure, That whole raising your kids as come certain religion is insane. Talk about making a life choice for someone. I would hate my parents if they had did that to me. That is a personal choice not to be entered lightly or by force. Course I don't belive any of that crap.  THANK GOD. HAHAAA. I really hate this whole team thing. Yep, it is really scary..... My parents raised us Catholic, but always encouraged us to look at other religions and make up our own minds.... I had good folks.. ;} The 3rd party movement is getting stronger and stronger the further we go along. People realize they want a 3rd choice... something different than the 2 giants... Personally though, I don't like the green party... I prefer the libertarian, but they didn't make a strong showing this election..Little bit at a time the independants are gaining power, as the younger voters get tired of seeing the same old retoric being thrown around and nothing done to back it up. Change is coming.... no worries there... ;}

The two party system we have is one of our key strengths!!! A third or fourth party are only really needed if the firt two parties are not meeting people's needs or there is a new political movement that needs representation.But here is the real answer. Sometimes it is more effeciant to change the party rather then just come up with a new party. I am a member of people who want to change the republican party to better meet my, and my nation's needs. I think it will be very possible to change the republican party towards compassionate conservitism, or at least my brand of this. I want moderation in legislating morality, but a stronger conservative view of government. I want to push the moral/legal aspects of the party left and the political aspect to the right. My parents are flaming liberals - really in the end, children usually rebel against their parents political affiliation, especially when the parents are conservative. I don't like Nader, and I don't like the Green party - BUT bless his sole!!!! It is great to see more activity from otehr parties, but I don't think we should have any guilt over the fact that they are not competetive yet as a party. This election has shown that the two parties are still both very valid and strong. It does seem that the democrats are losing more to the Green than the repinlicans are losing to other parties. But this may just be an issue with the popularity (or lack thereof) of Clinton/Gore. IP: Logged |

Actually SV we were not intended to be a 2 party system. It has just come down to that. The 2 party system is something that has developed over time and is, IMO corrupt. The rise of the 3rd parties is an indication that the 2 large parties are not doing what they are supposed to. But we are so used to the 2, we just think that is the way it is supposed to be. The moderates are starting to float to the independents and this will force the 2 to change more than anything we tell them. But more important, by devaluing thier power base, it will force many of the carreer politicians to start actually doing what they are supposed to do... listen to Us.

I never implied that we are "intended" to be a 2 party system.I was expressing the fact that we have 2 viable and almost equally empowerd political views embodied in two equally powerfull and well organized political parties is the main reason America is so prosperous and peacful. In what way is the 2 party system currupt, or how does it promote curruption? IP: Logged |

I wont vote for Nader due to his strong opposition of technology, to the point of nearly being a Luddite. 1 He hates genetic engineering, which my sister works in. I believe its necessary if we ever want to be able the billions of people we'll be producing by 2050. 2 He hates the aerospace industry, which I work in. He opposes nuclear power usage in space, even though we have a giant fusing ball of hydrogen at the center of the solar system, and currently nuclear propulsion is one of the best ways to get around space. Ive been to Nader rallies here in ohio just to see what he has to say. He says he believes small farmers should be paid more, and his moronic supporters cheer. As if they would ever pay 3 times what we're paying for milk. If we're going to be supporting 12 billion by 2050, the small farmer is on its way out. Sorry,but thats the way its going to be. Evolve or die. IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Ok guys, cool. Now I know that i would not vote for him either. About the farm thing, I'm of the opinion that there can still be small farms but they have to form co-op businesses with their neighbors. Like 2-10 farm families consolidate there land and equipment and run one business together. Not easy but better then selling out cause its too hard to compete with the big boys. IP: Logged |

I have found that lots of company's do it that way. Driving around here in Maryland there are lots of farms that have different names, but one company sign, or one "Owned" by sign. I agree that getting under the umbrella of several farms is a good idea, and keeps the land and family assest's.

One of the major reasons the family farm is disappearing is the Estate Tax. When the farmer dies his/her children often have to sell the farm to pay the tax, also known as the death tax. Congress this year tried to eliminate the death tax but Clinton vetoed it. This is one of the differences between Gore and Bush. Guess which one wants to do away with it? yeah, the democrats seem to think that the rich heirs don't deserve to keep what the parents worked for... they seem to want it for the rest of the people that have nothing to do with work...at all.... ah well, such is life with socialists....

Spanky here... Wa, insane. Never heard of anything like that up here. Although I think people should work for themselves instead of sucking off there parents teets even after their death. The most I'm doing for my kid is helping him get some of his first loans and building his house. Sometimes people are better people if they have to support themselves. I'm talking here about the rich snobs who never had to work a day in there life. I'm not saying the goverment should take the money though.
