If you don't mind discussing who you voted for, let's start the thread- 1. Who you voted(or are voting) for 2. Why? (no debates ...just who you voted for and why.) Me: 1. Nader 2. Why? 1) No big business Republicans 2) Gore supports gun control, affimative action, and is an environmental freak. 3) Protest vote - Dems need a wake up call -pick a more moderate candidate next time. 4) With the screwy electoral college system, if you vote for Gore in Texas, it won't matter anyway 5) Make sure the Green Party gets their 5% vote so they can get federal matching funds in the next presidential election - remember, competition breeds quality AND choice. Well, having just moved, I was not able to register, so I cannot vote this time.... dammit.... I would have to say Bush. But I would love to see Nader get some electoral votes.... ;} Viva la 3rd party... ;} BTW, correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the electoral college only supposed to vote when the popular election was too close.... the tie breaker as it were? I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that being the case.

1. Bush2. a) I want to see a more conservative roll of government overall. (less governemnt, taxes) b) I want a new positive attitude leading in Washington. c) I Like GW. d) A stronger sense of military priorities in America / better energy policy - why is that with military? e) Better economic policy that comes with understanding the importance (and pitfalls) of big business. - keep incentive for "big" drug companies, etc. f) More re-privitization of schools and medical care. g) Focus on "improving" rather then just throughing money at problems. I want accountability in public schools (if we have to have puiblic schools) - I don't think Bush has succeeded yet in Texas, standardized testing is NOT the answer, but accountability in some form is. h) He will inspire the republican party to moderate on certain key issues such as abortion - one step at a time - he will start the trend that leads to a stronger more in touch conservative party. I'll stop before I run out of alphabet Good luck Gore and Bush, this is quite a sport, politics. Mir, purpose of the electoral college was to keep more control in the "aristocracy," as it were, to help make sure that the crazy rif-raf did not pick a president dangerous to American values. If there is in electoral tie, then the congress votes! So be careful when you vote congressmen tomorrow, it just might effect the presidential race this time!!! IP: Logged |

I like the idea of getting to state your opinion and reason without debate. Thanks for the opportunity.Gore... because Jesse Jackson didn't run this year, Dangit! Actually because I want a liberal in office, and although Nader may be more liberal, a vote for nader is likely to put Bush in the office, than to put a liberal in the office. And since I live in Bush's home state and can't stand him here either, or what he did to my schools, my insurance, my profession, or the city of Arlington, I certainly don't want him trying the same thing nationally. And lastly because I don't want a consevative putting the next few justices on the Supreme Court. [This message has been edited by goth (edited 11-06-2000).] IP: Logged |

SV, some things to add to your list...i) privitization and subsequent vaporization of social security... oh well, who cares... all the people who matter have their retirement money in the stock market anyway j) less money to the military k) a missile defense shield that doesn't work but that nevertheless threatens the balance of power l) assloads of debt m) an incomprehensible foreign policy n) Dubya constantly telling us about his heart o) Laura's fake smile p) Dubya's creepy smile (usually seen when talking about the death penalty) q) an explanation of what Affirmative Access is... I can dream, can't I? r) more unforgettable phrases like "fuzzy math", "mediscare", and "subliminable" s) states will be able to proudly fly the Stars and Bars... hey, it's their right! t) Rush Limbaugh gets to control America! u) the president ALWAYS has a designated driver v) really, really funny press conferences w) W! as in World War 3! x) Voodoo Economics! oh well, that's all i can think of [This message has been edited by JT (edited 11-06-2000).] IP: Logged |

Nader - since he didn't get a chance to debate, he didn't lie to use yet. The other schmucks running are lying out their arse and don't deserve to win, much less hold a public office. In my case, the lesser of two evils was someone else who has balls.IP: Logged |

Gore and straight democrat.1. He's the only candidate that might help working people. 2. Because he's a democrat. 3. I wouldn't vote for a republican if they were the only ones running. We had some races where a republican was running against "No Candidate". I voted for "No Candidate". IP: Logged |

1) Gore2) Most prepared, intelligent, left-center viewpoint, and a chance at winning. I say tax the heck out of me... if the government doesn't take my money to give to people who need it, I'll just spend it on something I don't really need, like upgrading my TV to one that has a remote, or a new graphics card :-) Also, my girlfriend is a Chinese citizen, and I suspect the INS might be more lenient (i.e. give out more citizenships) under a left-center government than a right-center one. charm IP: Logged |

BUSH... (Yeah just to piss you off DanW) Why? Screw the general political policies ... I voted with my concience! 1.) If I have to watch Gore deap-thoat his wife one more frick'n time I gonna hurl! 2.) I REALLY enjoy the fact that Gore and his overly-rightous wife both are actively seeking to control the context..content.. and our right to enjoy the movie industry as well as our beloved software industry! (Just what we need is the goverment getting involved in another attempt to shove someones moralistic ideals down our thoat). 3.) Anyone who believes Gore had no idea what was going on with Clinton and Monica is either a clueless twit (in which case I have a bridge to sell you)... or you've never been privy to work-related "relationship" gosip. Bah ... in a nut shell ... It's a vote for the "better of two evils" ... And I've not gong to waste my vote on some bible-thumping self-rightous windbag... Or that other guy ... Leiber'who? Smokey, please define "working people".Are you serious? You would vote for anyone as long as they called themselves a Democrat, and would never vote for someone who called themselves a Republican? I guess that has some advantages....it certainly wouldn't require any thought or intelligence to vote that way. Why waste time studying the candidates and the issues? Leaves more time for SDOE. Poor old Abe Lincoln and the slaves. Wouldn't stand a chance in a world of Smokeys. IP: Logged |

Jerry, Working people are people that sweat and get their hands dirty. They are the ones who go home exausted every night after earning their $8.00 and hour while they make someone else rich. I doubt if you would know them.I've said it before but I'll say it again. I have always been better off financially when a democrat was president. It never seemed to make any difference who it was. If you look down on your paycheck and some other son of a bitch had to sign it so you can get your money then you had better vote democrat. That was always the situation I was in and that's the way I vote. Prop, I can tell by the way you act your not rich enough to be a republican. Wait until your 65 and see if you need help with perscription drugs and health care.

Man, what's up with Florida? Seems like nobody could get it straight. 3 different news channels, each with their own "projections."Damn that one was mighty close. What a wacky election. We got people voting for a dead guy, judges extending the voting, and supposedly some people in Florida mistakenly voting for Buchanan. Had to be a mistake... Oh well, Party at SV's house, I guess. GW can bring the keg Just to spice things up I think the Prez and Ted Kennedy should also be invited. Those fellas know how to party. Hmmm... as of a few minutes ago... there was only 11000 votes between Bush and Gore in Florida. That means a recount kids.. By Florida law, any result with less than .5 percentage points between the top two candidates must be recounted... .5 percentage points is in the neighborhood of 30000 votes.I hate recounts...too much possibilty for "extra" ballots to get inserted. -Stark IP: Logged |
