Spanky here...

K boys I just bought this thing.

When I bought it the guy said not to let windows install it but to cancel the add new hardware wizard and then use the disk to install it.

So I did but right in the middle of that the new hardware wizard still pops up.
So then I didnt know what to do, so i used the wizard at that point.

Anyways so it was giving me sound but when I went to diagnostics to test the sound it would give me an error message sayhing my drivers weren't install correctly and to reinstall them and try again.

So i did and it didn't make any difference, Sound worked but I couldn't test it.

So i figured who cares, and started up SDOE, I had heard that it had eliminated slowdowns when firing guns, welp that diddn't happen for me, but it did get rid of the hicup that used to happen when i first fired them.

So then I downloaded a SBlive driver update and install that.

Now it would let me run the test but i couldn't hear anything at any time.

So now i'm pissed.

I proceed to pull the card right out, uninstall all the crap in the system menu and all the crap in the add/remove programs menu.

then I reboot into safe mode and check there but theres nothing there.

So i reboot, then shut down and put the card in.

boot up and it installs everything without asking me nothing cause it seems to have all the freaking drivers stored somewhere, I didnt' even have the disk in anymore.

So now once again no sound.

All I want is sound, it doesn't have to improve my performance like I was hoping cause i'm going to redo windows in around a month anyways.

That also means that i don't feel like redoing windows right now.

So anyways I'm hoping you guys can give me some tips that might help me FULLY get rid of all the crap in there right now without formating.

And any feedback on performance differences you guys have seen in SDOE.

Thats not the only reason I bought it so its no biggy if its not much, I needed a sound card anyways for my new system.

having worked for Creative for 4 bloody years, here are some tips.. make sure that the card isn't sharing irq's. Big no no. that will also give the stuttering. Try changing PCI slots. This card does require a bus mastering slot. Try slot 2... thats from the agp slot BTW. Slot 1 tends to be shared with the AGP slot. The last PCI can also be shared with other things, that is why I recomend slot2. Also, make sure that the speakers are setup with front speakers in the black jack. Second jack from the joystick port. I have seen that kill more installs.. ;}
Good Luck.... and thier Tech support isn't too bad..... ;}

Ok... heres what to do:

Uninstall the drivers in Windows. (Dont restart if it asks) Remove all the crap it installed under System in Control Panel. Take the SB Live! CD out of the drive. Then reboot up in Safe Mode. Go to System under the Control Panel agian and make sure everything having to do with sound or Sound Blaster (Even the joystick if its on the card) is deleted. (Removed) Then restart agian and this time do a normal boot. Then it will say found new hardware and it will ask you to put in the SB Live! CD. Do so and let it install the drivers. (It also may ask for the Win 9x CD) When its done installing the drivers, reinstall DirectX 7a and reboot.

I HOPE this helps...

Spanky here....

Cool man I got it working, But that info is still cool.

Yeah I moved it one slot away from the isa slots so from the AGP its in slot# 3 out of 4 on this board.

Also I check all the drivers each device was using and deleted them after removing all the hardware.

Then I reininstalled and was having problems.

It couldn't find a file to run the devices so i restored it from the recycle bin and now she is working.

Still no better performance in SDOE. but like I said it did get rid of the hicups.

at least i have sound again, I was getting pissed.

Yeah I wasn't sure about the jack thing but then I looked at the old SB16 and compared colors on it, (i hate the icons instead of writing on the live) and figured the other new jack (besides the digital) was for rear speakers.

Now I guess I should really hook this sucker up with my stereo.

Thanks to you to argon.

We were posting at the same time so i missed yours.

I gotta admit that i forgot all about reinstalling DX7a. Although it seems to be working fine without that.

ANyone have any ideas, (besides bad wires) why i would be getting a nasty hum when I try to hookup from the line out to the VCR2 input on my stereo amp?

I could be bad wires but I was wondering if there was anything else i might be forgeting.

thanks again.

Check to see if the microphone is on mute (If its not, it better be) and that the speakers arent turned up too loud and that the base isnt turned up all the way. Other than that... just screw with it!

the hum could be from lots of different things.... make sure the cable isn't going anywhere near your monitor. Also the jacks on the live don't match the SB16. from the game port they are rear out, front out, line in, mic in, digital out.

Yeah I guess I'll invest in a new cable, it could be that.

And Yeah i had it in the right port, cause my speakers work fine but as soon as i plug my cable going to the stereo it goes all hummy.
