It's that cool helicopter that flew in a circle that all kids really loved back in the 70's. Well it's back, and is packaged by Kool Toyz. I found one at Target and it was only $15.00 so I bought one for my son. We got it home, set it up with all of these buildings it came with (paper folding type but nicely done) and cars and things to pick up with it's hook. The original Vertibirds were red in color, this one is white and say's Police on it.

If you have some kids who you think would enjoy seeing a small helicopter actually fly in your home, go get it! It's in a blue box and is in a Kool Toyz section/isle (just look for the isle that has LOTS of blue boxes).

After telling my kid it won't fly, the 4 D batteries were just for sound (yes I was tricking him), when I hit the controls and got it into a hover he said "Dad this is so cool!" about 10 times in a row

Pete, was that the one with the motor and batteries in a hand-held unit, connected to the helicopter by a spinning wire? That toy was freaking awesome.
Glad to hear they are still around!

Lothar,

No, this is the one with the large base that housed 4 D batteries and sat on the floor. I do remember the one you are thinking of though.

Well, you have a base with 4 "D" batteries in it and it has a radar dish on it. It's got a 2-3 foot wife with a helicopter on the end that has a hook for picking up stuff. It comes with a couple cars and other items to pick up, plus some paper buildings with "H" on top for roof landings. For the money, and to make a young kid happy it can't be beat (ok, well console games beat it). hehe
