I did some research recently on this for work [boss wanted one!] and found out this: The technology is new and there are 4 competing formats right now, much like beta vs. vhs.None of the formats are compatible,if you record something with your dvd-ram and give it to someone else, they too must have a dvd-ram drive, same thing with dvd-r &dvd-rw.Right now they are being touted as storage devices as much as anything,a two-sisded dvd-ram can hold up to 5gb!I'm not going to say this with impunity, but I don't think you can copy dvd's.I know you couldn't play them in the average home player for sure. Also, the drives that are available are VERY expensive, starting at around 800.00 and going way up from there!!From what I gather right now,it's best to wait a year and let the format thing work itself out and then buy.But yes, there is such an animal as a dvd rewritable drive(s)!
I found some info at cnet computers.com and also gamecopyworld.
