Came across this in a forum: --I too had the problem of cfs2 recognizing my mspp gameported stick with sidewinder 3.02 software. I deleted and reinstalled 3.02, then added the stick as new hardware. Works now, but never experienced that in any other sim. IP: Logged |

Yeah Tail, I finaly got it working by deleting SW software all together and installing the stick as new hardware. No thanks to MS tech support. Now the problem I have is the game moves like a slideshow, literally! Freezes, moves, freezes, moves. Kinda hard to fly when you jump a mile at a time in a freeze frame motion. GRRRRR! -=BAB=- Gunner IP: Logged |

Try messing around with your sound hardware settings or disabling sound.. TS IP: Logged |

Gunner -I'm willing to bet your running a Sound Blaster AWE card, right? If so, go and set the hardware acceleration for it to either the very left of the slider of one click from the left. This solves the problem 90% of the time (did for me!), the other common problem is insufficient hard disk space for a swap file. If the sound hardware acceleration thing doesn't fix it for you clear out as much space on your C: as possible and/or manually set your swap file size. -Stark IP: Logged |

Speaking of the swap file, and I am not suggesting this would help the problem but it might not hurt...on the CFS2 forum at combatsim is a thread entitled '128 to 256 = Performance +'. In there is a post from Mudshark about a tweak one can make to the Windows System.ini file under [386 Enhanced]....something about ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1. I am not sure if that is the exact syntax, but it alleges to force Windows to use available RAM before accessing the swap file. Others there have tried it, and reported frame rate improvement and less disk swapping, so it might be a useful gaming tweak over all - providing the software itself doesn't require the use of the swap file ( I think Sin was one that did, not sure ).I haven't used it myself yet, but intend to. Just putting it out there in case you hadn't heard of it.

Well Stark,After visiting the CFS2 forum, I did adjust the soundcard settings and it had no effect, I still get a very slow slide show with several second freezes. As far as disk space goes, I have a 30 gig HD, that is only 1/3 full. 256megs of pc133 ram, and a 1Gig processor. Gforce 64, Soundblaster Live Value sound card. What else could I possibly need? I may need to adjust the sound card settings more but this game is about a second away going back in the box and taken for a refund along with a choicely worded email to Microsoft stating that one shouldn't need to adjust all thier system settings just to play one of thier damn games! Keep the sugestions comming please. I need some sleep! P.S. FSDOE runs like silk no matter what I do. -=BAB=- Gunner IP: Logged | |
