Hey guys, well I was just watching a short science program, and heard them talking about SETI@home, and just had to look it up, well I've just downloaded their "screensaver" data analyser and registered an account.

What this is.. basicaly, it's perfect if you're on a permanent connection to the net, but fine for those of us that aren't aswell. You download and install a small program that can run as a screen saver, or run all the time, it gets info from their site for analysis, info from the maney radio telescopes, see there's so much info and not the equipment to process it all, and thats what this thing does, it checks through data they recieve looking for signals etc, the entire workings I can't explain, but there is info on thier site, i think it's a great idea and have jumped straight in, and would like to think the others will do the same, anyway, it's just started analysisng.. looks pretty cool heh.

Hope you guys help out the worlds under funded SETI institute and have a go at this

Ever since I started work I've had this thing running. We have three or four people in our office running this thing. It's not just a screensaver, it also runs in the background while you do other things.
The connections at work are always on fast ethernet connections, and the program doesn't noticeably slow down the system.
I wouldn't run it while I play SDOE though

damn mines been running 21hr 22 min now and is still only 88% done! but hey, I never turn this thing off anyway so it might aswell be working right?

If anyone is interested, this doesn't need a permanent connection, it downloads about 700kb of info and then doesn't need to connect again until it's finished processing it (work on 24hrs)
