Anybody watching everything, like I do??? Norway lost the beach volleyball game against you mates from Down Under. Congrats to you. But then again we got you bang-on in the handball game with 28-18 or something like that IP: Logged |

The Olympics started . I just like to see who won what. I am not into sports. However, the Sept issue of Maxium had some nice shots of the women of the Olympics. Babes, gotta love them.IP: Logged |

I've been trying to watch the Olympics but freakin NBC is really starting to annoy me. A typical hour of Olypic coverage is 15 minutes of actual events, 30 minutes of biographical crap on the atheletes and 15 minutes of commercials. And it's about to get worse, their ratings have been low (no, really?) so they have decided, exhibiting stupidity rarely seen outside of politics, that the way to fix this problem is to put in more commercials and bio's and less actual sports. What a bunch of idiots. The only consolation in this is that they had to prepare all those bio's well in advance of the games and chose those people who they thought would be sure winners...who almost invariably have gotten spanked by the competition... so we got 10 minutes of bio on the person who came in 8th and they can barely spell the name of the winner, highly amusing.-Stark IP: Logged |

One bright thing though: Did any of you see the spread on that Mosambique (sp?) swimmer the other night? He was placed in the last preliminary heat with two other swimmers, the other two jumped the gun and were disqualified, the race was restarted with only him. He swam the 100M , all by himself, in almost 2 minutes, a full minute behind the minimum Olympic qualifying time (he was invited under a special grant to help promote the Olympic games in other countries). before he even made it through the first leg of the race, he had already swum farther than he ever had in his life. The man struggled for the last 75M, but he just kept on going. Admittedly, I'm a softy for this kind of storey (Rudy-Rudy-Rudy), so by the time his race was over, and the crowd was cheering wildly, I was reduced to a sobbing mass of humanity. The man has HEART! The ironic thing? This athelete is the VERY best in his feild in his home country! In my minds eye, he is a true hero. ------------------ Fly Well, Dub Wing Walkers a Red Baron 3D Online Squadron IP: Logged |

Yeah the NBC coverage is really annoying. In addition to not showing much actual action, they are omitting so many sports: badminton, judo, ping pong, handball, soccer, shooting, etc. etc. Instead we get to see the "dressage" part of equestrian (how is that even a sport?), and of course the prelims for every swimming event in the world. Don't get me wrong, I like to watch swimming and gymnastics, but there is a lot more going on besides that, and maybe just giving a _hint_ of the other sports would be appropriate. And about the sob stories: I think one or two here and there are worthwhile, but how many times did we hear about that Russian gymnast's baby he hasn't seen at home yet? I wish I had cable, I hear the CBC (Canadian) broadcast is much better. charm IP: Logged |

Dressage is much like gymnastics or figure skating. It seems silly and pointless until you try to do it, or have someone does a good job of explaining what the judges are looking for. Then you can start to respect the performers for being able to pull off the feats they do.I stopped watching the Olympics years ago. I got tired of the "Poor, poor, pitiful me" stories. My roomies were gymnasts in high school, so they're watching a lot of it, so I catch bits and pieces. I'm repeatedly and constantly annoyed at the announcers who try to turn each performance into some life-altering dramatic event. IP: Logged |

Well I say any activity that involves wearing a top hat doesn't deserve to be in the Olympics... maybe I'm hattist. You know what's sort of interesting about the gymnastics is how harsh the announcers are. Its all, "Oh he really screwed that up. I can't believe _anybody_ at this level would make a mistake like that." I also have been having great fun hearing those guys slaughter the Chinese names. As an aside, one of the Chinese gymnasts is named Li XiaoShuang, where XiaoShuang means the younger of twins (I guess he didn't have very imaginative parents for naming when him and his brother were born). However, the direct translation of his name would be: Li Little Pair, whih is highly amusing to my immature mind :-) charm IP: Logged |

Heard about the NBC coverage : that just sucks but it's also is a consequence of of "over-commercialism" (prolly inventing words there!). Ie they just want to make money hence the "not live at heavy audience hours with lots of ads in it " behavior. Most entertainment company's dont give a f*** about entertaining audience we all know that Come here in France we doing not too bad so far on the medal board and we have games live on two channels (one paying tho) IP: Logged |
