Samuel Cody was an American who came to the UK and became the British Army Kite Instructor at Farnborough. He won the Military Aircraft Competition on Salisbury Plain in 1912. There are a number of interesting artefacts at the museum including a replica of his man lifting kite. Cody was the first man in the UK to fly an aeroplane in 1908. He was also instrumental in the engine development of the airship ‘Nulli Secundus’.

The Wright Brothers werent the first to fly an airplane. They were the first to control it in level flight. Many flights were made around the world with aircraft that could only go straight and not stup aloft for a descent amount of time.
