So, the other day I got a call from a telemarketer from ATandT who was trying to sell me some long distance service. I let him talk for about 10 seconds and then I told him that I don't have a phone. Without thinking about it, he said, "alright, thank you very much for your time.". Anyone else have any funny one's you can pull on telemarketers? IP: Logged |

I used to own a small business and was constantly (several times a month) getting calls from telemarketers wanting me change my LD carrier. About two days before I closed the doors I received a call from one. I let him go through the entire speel on the advantages of their service (10 or 15 minutes) and I signed up. He took another 5 minutes getting all the info and then had a "confirmation" operator go over everything again. Then they had another confirmation operator call me. They thought they had a live one. Then I cancelled the phone service two days later. I had nothing better to do and they spent a lot of time and effort selling and setting up the service and got nothing in return. Revenge can be sweet! IP: Logged |

Hey, tail... a variation on your approach would be to let them go thru their spiel for 10 minutes and then as soon as they're done say, "Hello?"

All the home improvement guys that call (siding, windows etc.) I let them go through the whole thing and then tell them I just rent this dump and I'm not making any improvements to it. I'm told they take you off their homeowners list if you do that.IP: Logged |

I spent a LITTLE time writing software to control the automated phone dialers they use. -ducks rotten tomato thrown by JT- Not sure about elsewhere, but here it is the law that if you say "Put me on your DO NOT CALL LIST" they cannot phone you again for several months. For pranks, a guy I knew tried to sell the caller a better headset device to talk on the phone with TS

I used to get a lot of phone calls but I cancelled all my credit cards. Now, all I get are phone calls from those long distance services. [This message has been edited by mposis (edited 09-02-2000).] IP: Logged |

In the UK I was plagued with those double glazing sales calls , then I got myself added to the Telesales pref list which means I can now get them taken to court if they phone me. Not had a phone call for over a year, had fun in the first 3 months while my details were being taken off lists telling them they were breaking the law.

Just tell them, "Go **** yourself." They understand that really well. It works in all languages, and has a understood universal meaning. IP: Logged |
