Hi, all!

Just got back from a vacation in Berlin, visiting an old school buddy of mine.

I checked out the Luftwaffen Museum while I was there. It was my first time to an aviation museum so I don't know how it compares to the others but I was grinning from ear to ear just checking out all the old Eastern Bloc equipment out on the tarmac side to side with the NATO stuff. In the hangar, they had some stuff from WWII including the gliders the Luftwaffe used to train their pilots, a Gustav and a 88 flak piece. I shot off all of my film -

- then wandered into a side room where they kept their Komet so I couldn't take a picture of the darn thing. I was amazed by how small it was. It's about the size of a Smart (minus the wings, of course). If you don't know what a Smart is, imagine a compact car cut in half. The only part of a 262 that they had was one meter off of the noise, all rusty, etc. I guess I'll have to go to a musueum in one of the former Allied countries in order to see a whole 262 :-(.

The Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio is hard to beat. Its got an ME-262, as well as a B-36 and the only XB-70 left. Check it out: http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/

And some fellas in Texas who call themselves the Texas Airplane Factory are producing flyable 262's. Within a year or two, at least two or three of them will be up flying.

I was in Germany last year visiting my brother. I missed the Berlin Luftwaffen Museum, though I did see a military museum in Dresden. It really was interesting seeing the Eastern Block equipment.

We did visit Berlin one day and saw what's left of Checkpoint Charlie. It just amazes me how quickly free enterprise transformed that intersection.
