The concept sounds cool but there's one fly in the ointment--who's going to want to play the poor bloody infantry when they can control a ship, a tank or a plane. One foot soldier on the battlefield is going to be pretty darn helpless against a fighter on a strafing run. And even with 1000 people playing at the same time, you wouldn't get enough infantrymen on the field for things to be 'realistic'. IP: Logged |

I hope they add some AI infantry to fill things out. They're way behind schedule though I think they may have bit off more than they can chew. TS

Yeah, that's one thing that they could do. Another would be to allow the person playing the infantry to control a company sized unit rather than an individual infantryman. His main 'character' could be the company commander who is shown a first person view of the battlefield, etc. and he gives orders to his platoon commanders, etc. When the company commander eats a bullet, the next guy in the chain of command takes over, etc. until the company is completely attritioned. I'm also in agreement that they probably bit over more than they can chew. The project sounds like it's going to be a HUGE undertaking. I hope it gets off the ground bit I'm just wondering if they'll be able to draw any clientele. IP: Logged |

SPanky here... Yeah its sounding really cool. Its the only game I have ever considered playing even though its pay to play. AH has nothing on this game if they pull it off. IF! About the whole infantry issue. Actually There will be alot of people wanting to play that. Think of all the people who play all the quake 3, UT, H&D and stuff. Well the people looking for a more realistic experience anyway. Its not no death match. And in a real war Camping is a good thing. Look at it this way There is almost as many posts in infantry section as there is in the air combat section. I'm thinking there will need to be AI too though. But I don't think its that bad of a problem. As for drawing people. WEll if they pull it off and the FMs are good I don't see why they would have any problem getting all the people that play all the other pay to play online flight sims. WHy would you want to play AH, WB, FA, or AW when you could play this and interact with real ground forces under real human control. And bail and walk away trying to get through the war and back to base. The hardest part will be convincing all the infantry, navy and armor fans that pay to play is worth it.

Let's face it. With Novalogic having free gaming area's for their games (example Delta force 1,2 and in october...Delta force 3, along with the various aircraft "sims" and armored fist games) It's gonna be really hard to pull in a paying crowd, Yes, I have seen the ad's online and I am not impressed. Granted, I am slanted a bit towards the infantry side, but I play air games as well. sorry, I am not paying for software then paying to crack off virtual rounds at someone. I can do this by buying the software and going onto free sites such as Novaworld. Take a good look at the lag issue. just suppose you have 1,000 people buzzing around blazing away.Let's face facts, Not everyone has cable, SDSL or ADSL. also, not everyone has the latest video cards and computers. It's gonna be lag city in quite a few of those games. we're having the same exact problems in www.warnuts.com We have players from all over the world logging into Novaworld to play. To be quite honest, It's lag central sometimes. You all know what I mean too. I have played this game with you when I had a crappy comp and crappy connection. I heard the complaints. I heard the bellyaching. Trust me, most folks won't have the conn's and comp's to play a really smooth game in WW2 online.------------------ If I'm flyin' I'm dyin' Be a chap and hand me that faulty parachute old boy, 'ey wot wot! Spanky here... I don't know man. I don't get what you mean by it will be hard to pull in a paying crowd? Right now you can play to play, AW, WB, AH, FA and thats just the flight sims. Why would you play any of those games if you could play ww2online? and get better graphics and the chance to play on the ground too? Also what do you mean you don't want to buy the game and then pay to play it. YOu don't buy any of the online only games. Ya just download it for free.
