I've got CFS, and I didn't like it because of the badly modelled planes. 3d models sucked, damage effects left a lot to be desired. Nothing showed, except that some strange smoke puffs came from the engine. FM's weren't exactly the best, either. It's rather nice to play when you want a quick dogfight before you go to bed, though.IP: Logged |

I think www.combatfs.com might have a primer on how planes are built. You could try posting there to see how it's done.I don't play CFS that much anymore but I occasionally put it in to play out the Clobber College mission - for a quick dogfight, it's alright. The graphics in CFS didn't really bug me - I don't usually go gaga for eye candy. What annoyed me was the AI (simulated stupidity in the words of one reviewer) and the badly handled collision routines. Besides that, I had no complaints about the game (although these contributed to my finding flying CFS to be no fun) besides the overall 'blandness' of it. IP: Logged |

CFS... not great. Fun at first but then it just got old. Some of the user-made planes were kewl. I try to download the best ones I could find. But even some of those models didnt look great... ripped off from MS Flightsim 95 and 98. I still have it on my hard drive and I play it every once in a while. I have about 150+ planes for it, and after getting them all working and modified to my personal tastes.... deleting it would not be a very wise idea. As for the modeling part, I have no clue.IP: Logged |

I liked CFS the least of all the WW2 sims last year.

If you enjoy all the cool aspects of SDOE (like shooting up planes and watching their pieces fall off, the tower view, the great feeling of speed, and things like that) then I'd say you'd hate CFS. I played it again a couple of days ago and it felt like it was in slo-mo, jut a horrible feel to it. Complete LACK of speed feel. It was truely torture so I deleted it and jumped into a quick mission in SDOE and was again in heaven. SDOE really can't be beat if you ask me.[This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 07-29-2000).] IP: Logged |

Absolutely. One of my favorite planes, HE-219, is available in CFS. And although it looks okay, except for the 2-d cockpit, it's not fun to fly at all. This is the problem with most sims, IMO. Accurate or not, the question to ask is "is the sim fun?" SDOE is a blast. Just flying the damn planes is fun; shotting down the AI is fun (again IMO). What enhances, but not drives, the fun factor in any sim is a beautiful set of planes and terrain. However, even if CFS 2 becomes beautiful, plane and terrain wise, it won't ever be fun. I guess the CFS's designers have no soul. IP: Logged |

Hmmm...the one 'fun' thing about CFS I found was the ability to fly really close to the enemy and put a burst RIGHT into the cockpit and be able to linger around and see the bullet strikes - all due to the 'slo-mo' effect people have talked about. You can do that in EAW and SDOE as well but things happen so fast that you don't really catch it happening.
