A friend of mine is in Germany right now, and he phoned me two mins ago because before he left for Germany, he got some money from me to buy me a PC game in Germany. He said they had Red Baron 3d for 10 Deutsche Mark.(About half a pound. HALF A POUND!!!!!) That's soooooo bloody cheap, and I want your opinions on the game because that's a giveaway price, and the game looks kinda nice.

It's a good game.

Flight models feel alright. The campaign is good and the variety of missions is interesting. If you played the original Red Baron it's just like that only with better graphics, a more 'dynamic' campaign and more things to shoot up.

Hmmm Red Baron 3D

Plus points are the campaign, which helps to keep you interested, and the good auto-pilot and time compresion. This saves endless boring flying if you don't have the time. Lets face it, the sim is not the most visually pretty, and the novelty of the scenery wore off quickly. Especially in comparison to SDOE with it's proper looking lumps and bumps.

Less good are the graphics, but they were o.k. when it came out, and the damage model. Not sure about some of the flight modelling either. And the total lack of a map facility. Surely WW1 pilots had maps! How many of you guys can tell where you are after a dog-fight over featureless terrain with few reference points?

Re-loaded it recently when I noticed that new planes were being built for it, and some editing was being done on FM's etc.

If SDOE had a campaign facility or some really cracking WW1 missions, this wouldn't get a look in. Otherwise, for the price ( I paid £9.99 ) it's good value. Bloody good value at German prices!

Hi, just an addendum (or correction).

Red Baron 3D DOES have a map feature. It's O on the number pad.

For half a pound sterling, dude, go for it.

The only problem is, I think you got your conversion messed up - 10 Deutsch marks is approximately 5 US dollars which makes around 2 quid, no?

Still, for 2 pounds, it's a good buy.

wakeup tailgunner is right - the graphics don't compare to FS: SDOE but I think the campaign and gameplay more than make up for it.

Eh. 3 or 4 Pound Sterling is a bit more correct. Hell, that happens when one starts getting old! Well, I'll buy it, then.
